just wondering why it is some people seem to think if they know your inside leg measurement they can give you help...if they don't you are given a very rude 'if you fill in your profile people will respond more' or similar blunt replies.
I was dealt this rather rude card when i first came on here and i think it is time some people got off their high horse and just helped for helping sake. Who cares if someone lives down the road from you or in lands end.
I was able to see past these feeble attempts to make me feel small but maybe others aren't so just take a step back when you write these remarks.

In the past people have come on and asked for help which was duly given on things like marketing only to find the stuff then being sold on ebay.
I dont think its high horses but more being a little more sure who your giving help to.
Also by adding your location sometimes you find some one near you so a phone call or a meet up can rsolve a problem.

You will always get some who appear to belittle when you pose a question.  Normally this stems from their own insecurity, and believe me, there is a lot of it.  Typical example was today when someone asked for a quide to prices for cleaning a load of chairs.  One came back with £20-£25 per chair, other tended to vere towards £4 - £5 per chair.  The ones with the bull tend to be the most critical

Basically it's got nothing to do with wanting to know everything about someone or to make them feel small. For your information I have spoken to him by personal e mail before now  : and was merely trying to help him by giving him a tip.

It's merely human nature for some people to feel awkward giving advice without knowing for instance some information giving a hint of who they are/what experience/how knowledegable etc. Its just life, there's nothing sinister about it and I'm sure no-one gets on their high horse when trying to help them out by telling them to fill in their profiles - especially not me!

I know what your trying to say, but I think you need to take a chill pill.

Now, I don't normally bother to look at anyones profile on this forum. I am more interested in the queries & answer that are offered.
Having drawn my attention to it, I have now looked at your profile and am sorry to say it really doesn't tell me anything of importance about you. No worry as it is none of my business. I assume you are in the carpet cleaning business otherwise you wouldn't be wasting your time on here and thats good enough for me

My mum told me never to talk to strangers ......and I would'nt walk upto a stranger in a public place and try and engage then in conversation without first introducing myself, this is why you should fill in your profile.

I read what you say but having looked atr your profile, other than knowing what part of the country you live in, you are male and only the third best looking cc in the country, it doesn't tell me whether you have a hidden agenda. That no doubt I can only discover by regularly reading all your posts

But in my defence I post under my full name which is also my bussiness name so anyone can (if they want) find me on yell.com.

but I agree the profile does'nt give enough  info.

Like Mike said, I have filled out the most that I could. And yes you assume right, I am in the carpet cleaning business as my signature explains - i.e. websites, NCCA, IICRC etc (bit of a giveaway really!).

Absolutely correct. But even if I filled in all the squares you wouldn't be that much the wiser about any hidden agendas and the likes. As you proffered your age above, I can tell you that I am not far short of bus-pass age. Been in business probably more years than most on this board are old.
In terms of postings here, no I do not rank with those who are classified with the 'Almighty' like yourself,  but as you are well aware there are numerous other forums for carpet cleaning in this country as well as abroad

sorry i f i ruffled some feathers as it was only intended for the people who give grief about profiles not completely filled out and the unwelcoming vibe.
I said to my wife when i first found this site how great it was for people to share their knowledge, i still believe this and just wanted to weed out the blunt, rude profile hunters.
For those of you that still believe in having your profile completed its not rocket science to make another email address, fake name etc to market products, or stir trouble. but lets not worry about it, thats for the moderator.

Ideally everyone should be honest say who you are etc and where you are from.

I know of  at least two Carpet Cleaners who read the board and do not post any information as  they may give away information that could be used against them.

If you have someones profile and they are in Scotland and you are in Wales perhaps you will help them The only problem is Fred from the same area also reads this Forum.

Makes me wonder if Forums are a good idea perhaps we should go back to the days before the ORIGIONAL CLEAN TALK when the only time you met a carpet cleaner was when you went on a training course run by a manufacturer ,or if you belonged to a trade body.

Personally I do not think so.

What I often do is check peoples previous posts.  That tells me their AGENDA

If you want Marketing advise Check out Mike Hallidays posting on The Original Cleantalk you need to go back years  1999  cant remember and back if you can.

Ive always found that those who talk about others insecurities, are the most insecure. Chill out guys, if someone offends you with what they say to you or about you, its only a problem if its true. If it isnt true then it doesnt mean a thing and doesnt matter because at the end of the day the truth will always prevail.

I've only been in this industry for three years and I  can honestly say that I have learnt more from this forum than anything else outside my initial (prochem) training. So take it personally or not, it's a bit like dishwahers, mobile phones, Sat Nav, inline heaters or whatever, once you have it you would really miss it if it was gone.
