i have a spare 400 ltr tank that i want to put in an escort van its about a foot too high so would like to cut it down any advice on how to cap the new smaller tank

I doubt very much that it could be done, it just would'nt be strong enough, you would be better off selling it or swapping with someone who wants a bigger tank. 400 ltrs in an escort van sounds a bit big for the payload too. I'm not sure but reckon the payload for an escort cant be more than 500 kgs or so, i have a ford courier (fiesta derived van) and a 250 ltr tank, I would'nt put a 400 ltr in mine.

Seek advice from the manufacturers but I agree with Simon, 400ltrs in a escort van has to be on the edge of its limits if not slightly over.

Also if you cut the tank you will lose the strength in the moulding and may find your driving along and out of the blue your having a bath???

hi i take it the this is an upright tank? what escort van do you have a 55 or a 75?

What you guys talking about ive got a 400ltr flat in My Escort 75 1.8 TD and its fine drives fine just have knock the gears down when going up a hill. The payload on the 75 model is Gross Payload(Kg):   715 so well within your limits inc the ladders bits and bobs and the driver.

like I said I was'nt sure, my courier van is of a similar size but know its payload to be 512 kg so a 250 ltr is as big as I can go.

If you cut the top off your tank you will lose all structural rigidity....don't do it!!!

thanks for your replies , the plan was that when the tank was cut down it would no longer be a 400 ltr more like an upright 300ltr,  the flat tank looks quite good . although my escort is the 55 model
