Security!!
« on: September 23, 2004, 08:44:11 pm »
Over the last month ive spent hours and far too much money rebuilding a little off road bike i bought on ebay  for my seven year old son, I finished it and managed to get it started all ready for the weekend only for it to stolen last friday :'( :'(  so now have a very upset boy.
In someways i was lucky, the only other things taken were some of my tools and luckily none of my cleaning equptment was in the garage as this is where it lives when not in use.
The incredibe thing is i live in a very low crime area in a quiet village and the garage is actually joined to my parents bungalow on there farm. This has left me convinced the thieves were travelers as they do seem to like stealing and have no regard for the law >:(
With a locked garage in broad day light no longer being secure enought i dont want to unload the van, do you guys think a CCTV system would be enough of a deterant to make the scum think twice?

Paul,

Sorry to hear of your loss. Imagine how I felt when my fully loaded van disappeared a few years ago.

The only way I can see this being of benefit is if it is constantly monitored by someone with a shotgun.

The van that was stolen was driven away with alarms blaring in broad daylight. A neighbour had all his landscape gardening equipment loaded on to a travellers' lorry, in broad daylight, with another neighbour shouting at the thieves from an upstairs window, whilst taking a video film of the theft.

Some thieves will not be deterred  by anything less than an overwhelming physical threat to their person.

Sorry to hear of your plight. It really hurts the soul and the anger can build up inside without an avenue of release. My sympathies.

If it was travellers, what good would a CCTV have done you? It's only one tool to making everything as secure as poss. I live in a village too, and we go through spates of similar events to yours. I gather from others that the police are very good, but only at supplying you with a Crime Number for your insurers >:( You need to pull down the shutters and bolt everything to the floor. That way they'll need a big lorry with a crane to lift the shed onto their flat bed truck so will then be a little easier to catch :(

Safe and happy securing:)
Ken

PS It tittled me today when tomorrows call rang me to ask if I minded being on my own whilst she went off to do a little "Shoplifting" :D

Thanks Guys, The shot gun sounds a good idea! Then again knowing travellers They would only just come back a week later and shoot me :P. I would put a rottweiller in the garage but they nick dogs too now so what can you do??

John, I can't think how you must have felt when your van was taken, i hope the insurance covered lack of earnings as well as the value of your van and gear. It would be great if the goverment brought back real justice and cut thieves fingers off, perverts b#ll#cks off, etc, etc you get the drift!!!

Ken, I'll take your advice and bolt averything to the ground, The police were good and issued a crime number as you said, they also offered to come look for prints on anything we could say they had moved but there was nothing obvious, seems if they touched it they nicked it :'(

Hi

My sympathies also.... Last Friday fourteen sheds were broken into on our local allotment... I was lucky this time.

It is the second time this has happened this month.. the target...Rotovators, petrol strimmers etc. Damage was minimal to gain entry to the sheds (a panel off here and there) but nevertheless irritating

Most of the people on this site and many other sites throughout the UK who suffer similar attacks are old and vunerable..

As we are a fully integrated multicultural society (allegedly) maybe we should adopt some of 'their' practices in instances like this.

You steal...we take one hand

Steal again...we have the other one!

Bring back the public stocks in the market place and also capital punishment

Here Here!! ths country is in need of some drastic changes when it comes to enforcing the law. These scum bags who steal, vandalise, etc have no regard for the the law and no fear of the consiquences, usually just a slap on the wrist >:(
One thing that is a real concern is that these scum bags breed far more than us respectable types then appear on ITV's Trisha!!! So in 50 years it will be chaos :o
