i had an idea

been looking on ebay, found some submersible pumps for around £30, and also some step up transformers from 12v to 240v

would it be possible to stick this in a water tank, and pump it into the back pack as and when you needed it,

or do these things pump fast not over long distances i.e through 50m of microbore

just a though, would seem a cheaper alternative to filling up the tank which would take some time, and also on pumps varisteam etc

Wouldn't it be easier to just pump straight to the pole using microbore, I may very well be wrong, and there could be an explanation for this so sorry if I sound like an idiot!!!

yes, isn't that what we all do ?.
 I can see the logic in having a pumped system for refilling the backpack because doing it from containers is tedious. But once you start running out hoses the back pack becomes surplus to requirements.

but if only have a backpack, and dont want to fill an 18l tank with a 25l container, then would seem alot easier

you can get a 225l tank from screw fix for 75quid, would just seem cheaper?

Why not fit a tap at the bottom of the tank ?  Make sure the fittings can be accessed thru the filler of the tank.  Cleantech can supply all parts.

I syphoned the water from a twenty litre container to an 18ltr backpack from the hieght of the trunk of my car using a 3/4 inch bore hose and it took less than a minute. Why bothr with a pump?

If you get a big tank to go in the car make sure that it's baffled.

That depends on how much water you expect to use.

As far as the pump is concerned, if it's just to transfer water to your backpack, syphon it with the 3/4 inch hose and forget the pump. Keep it simple. less to go wrong.

25 litres is around 60 pounds in wieght. First time I tried pouring it into a backpack I did it twice within a short space of time and spent the next day flat on my back. At the speed it syphons through a 3/4 or 1" inch hose you might as well do it that way and save your back.

i dont use a backpack much, ive a trolley system and just change the 25 L barrels over when empty

BUT

when i use my handpumped backpack ( for the odd rear of a house with loads of steps ) i just leave the barrel in the boot of the estate car and tip it over and out of the van, it then fills the back pack and i stand the barrel up when done, no lifting involved at all

Why didn't I think of that. (Must be me age. Hang on I'm only 46. Mind you I feel like 60 sometimes) Sometimes the most obvious is staring you in the face. Mind you that won't work in my Primera 'cause I'd still have to lift it over the trunk. But it will probably suit you Alex as if memory serves you drive an estate car.

Is it the 'freedom trolley' you use Matt? If so how do get on with it?

No glug if you tilt and pour from the top.
I am near 60 so I now use 10L containers-easy.

My electric trolley broke a small piece of aluminium casting today racing a wheel chair down some steps (dont ask) 
So its back to the original 10 year old backpack. Just finished putting it on a £10 shopping trolley until I get a repair or a new one.
One  bungee strap and back to back pack mode- its going to be an experience as I havent used it in anger for well over a year.

I use a small 12v caravan pump to fill my backpack, I used to use my 100psi pump on my ststem, but the time it took I could stop for a cupa, with the 12v caravan pump, 2 minutes and its full.
