Always leave my portable outside

Just wondered where you chaps have your machine set up when your cleaning. I've got an Alltec Pro Plus and it always always stays outside by the door come rain or shine. Only ever bring it inside if I'm cleaning a big house or commercial premises. Saves trying to position it in awkward spaces and must add life to the motors if they are outside in the cooler air.

I try to leave the machine outside but find that its not always possible. How do you go on if its raining heavy, you have to keep going in and out to empty and fill the machine. This will mean either changing your shoes every bucket full that you carry outside or bringing dirt and mud back into the customers house. Its no problem in the summer, I just put a big dust sheet down on the drive by the back door, stand the machine on it, and walk in and out of the house on the "clean" sheet.

If I can leave it outside I do,if not it has to come inside. When inside I try to leave it as near to the door as possible.

Except for security reasons, I have not taken a machine into a building for decades.
It does not take the greatest ingenuity to devise a rain cover, and who wants all that hot, damp, smelly air exhausted by the machine, discharged into the work area?
Where appropriate I locate the machine under the awning attached to the van.

If my machine was left outside i would need shackles, chains and running shoes on to catch the buggers as it disappears down the road .. Also it is not insured if left outside..

I leave mine in the hallway near the front door...if anything its centralised to your work area & the hallway is the last thing I would do...no worries then.

Ideally I like to leave my machine outside.
However if its cold day customer not happy. Not always convienient to go through windows.
Letter boxes are a pain.
Concerned when it rains.
So 5 times out of ten I keep machine in hall.

John said "Where appropriate I locate the machine under the awning attached to the van".
Is this awning something that you have made yourself John, or can anyone buy one?
I like the idea
Dont suppose you could post a photo?

Chris,
It's strictly DIY - one of the simplest devices I have built, but absolutely life-changing.

Hi Nick,
Yes the cables do get wet, but provived the PAT is suffiently regular, that is not a problem. cleaning/ drying hoses, as every TM opperator knows, can be more of a pain.

I have an Alltec Professional plus also and I will usually leave it in the hall as I like to use one set of hoses if poss. Otherwise I leave it outside if one set will reach.
If it rains I put a sheet over the machine (not the fan or exhaust). Obviously if I am working upstairs I will run two sets of hoses.
