over wet
« on: May 17, 2007, 10:17:33 am »
Hi I called prochem last week and asked them why they don’t make a machine with high pressure like 450 psi and the engineer told me that even with any machine with twin 3 stage vacuum you shouldn’t have a pump more then 120 psi  otherwise you over wet the carpet he says they could fit 135 psi in their machine but the wont because of this  what you guys think

I think what prochem is getting at is that with a high PSI machine it would be too easy to over wet the carpet, especially in the hands of an inexperienced operator.

Obviously, a high PSI machine is OK in the hands of a professional, such as your good self.

My personal experiance is higher the pressure the less water is used, depends on the jets in the wand as well so there are many variables,

I do have a 500 psi twin vac machine which I always use turned down to 150-200 psi because it does seam to do a better job at that pressure but nice to have more when it's needed, but by the same token I can turn out a good job with BX at 60psi and a single 3 stage vac ( just feels like it takes forever)

differance from 120 to 135 psi is hard to gauge, yes the pumps are the same size cannot see how that would affect the carpet so badbly.

And a bit of a strange answer because in USA you can get a 200psi Cheyenne.

The high psi allows you to move faster. Go slow and you will indeed over wet. As long as you dry pass properly you'll be fine. Having a dryer moving around with you helps.

CFR is a different system than normal HWE, you cant compare safe PSI levels between the two.

I wouldn’t use my truck mount at 450 psi on most carpets, BIG chance of damage !

Just because you have a powerful water pump doesn’t mean that you should use it at that PSI.

My car will do 155mph, but I don’t always travel at that speed  ;)

Its a tool to be used in a professional manner, to be adjusted to suit each different job.

Very dangerous in the hands of a newbie  :(

Why do you raise such a stupid question.............I have posted positive comments about CFR machines and had a similar response !!!!!!

If you use " good technique " you can easily get away with 120 psi.

I had a 400 psi machine 10 years ago but used 200 most of the time, however it was handy to have the 400 when the occasion arose.

Obviously, a t/m will give the advantage of continuous use, continuous hot water, less time per job.

i think that some carpet cleaning companies live in the dark ages with the advice to match! get yourself a higher psi machine, you get a much better finish & you'll soon get to grips with it. regards char
