I saw on Peter Fogwells site last night, that he has a system for sale for £199, suited to the home owner, enabling them to do their own windows and conservatory roofs. :(

This consists of a 18ft pole and a 1 litre di bottle, this is not to slag Peter off, as if he does not do it someone else will, and im surprised b&q or equivelent have not caught on to the idea already.

Could their come a point in the future once wfp becomes the norm, where 'some' of our customers decide to do there own, as its looks pretty easy and theirs no risk involved, and lets face it for £199, it wont be too long untill they have got their money back?

Also on big schools hospital and other commercial work, would it not be more cost efficient for an in house operative to do the W/C?

Obviously their will always be people who want to pay rather than do their own windows, but i just see a point in the future where as i said, wfp is the norm, our pool of work may start to shrink. ???

Think this may hit the southern boys first as their prices can be higher than us in the north.

What does everyone think?

20million homes plus......hundres of schools, shops, clubs, pubs, hotels, flats, offices, warhouses, conservatorys, cladding cleaning, facia boar cleaning, and on and on and  on no i dont think our work will shrink up ever also customers could have and have always had access to a ladder they could have always done their own in house cleaning even before wahd so i dont think we will ever be without work

you get people who do their own painting and decorating but their are alos millsions of those about.People do their own diy yet their are still builders etc.

Garderners ....i cut my own lawn yet my cousin makes a living out of cutting other peoples.

i clean my own van and car so do my neighbours but their are car washes all over the country.

Never will we have to worry about home owners and other buildings being cleaned and us without work

Appreciate what your saying, and do agree mostly, but as i said with wfp, there is no risk! most people wont touch a ladder.

But how many bungalows do there own windows, alot more than do their own windows on houses, this is because they dont need a ladder?

Its just a thought, not saying we are all going to be signing on!

This is not a good seller and is mostly bought by the home owner that has tried and can't get a window cleaner, or a reliable one.  Like most things we buy for the home to do ourselves they lie in the garage and rarely see the light of day.

The last one I sold a couple of weeks ago was to an old chap who wanted it for his car and caravan.

You also have to remember that the system in question only uses DI resin, and could work out dearer than a window cleaner in a hard water area.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Ionnics have been selling the diy system for years

There is already a car washing brush with some resin that you can buy.

I have many customers who live in bungalows and mobile homes. Some of my best customers live in ground floor dwellings. Many people have no inclination or time to clean their windows, and as long as they can get a reliable, honest w/c who does a good job - I believe the status quo will remain.

It is probably only the pricing issue that may encourage some to start doing them themselves. Although we've all lost customers who have said "I'm not paying that, I'll do them my self" but the windows just stay dirty!!
