Point taken Len.

I can only speak from my experience, but it seems that once customers have experienced "the truckmount" at work they all say the same "it is far better than when i had mr porty cleaner come and do it" and as for the recomendations when they ring up they all say is that the ccs with the trucmounted super no nonesense cleaning machines that doesnt waste all my electric in heating portys up and doesnt waste my water and doesnt pour all my crap down the loo or sink and more importantly gives a more powerful clean than a porty in half the time, end result cleaner carpets, and customers that dont look over your shoulder all the time asking what time will you be done because i have to go out, maybe we should have a customer poll, tm OR PORTY

why is it that many portable users will go to far lenght,s to improve the proformance of their electrical units.

It is true that many don,t upgrade to a (Beast unit) Because of cost.

If a mid range truckmount was avalible for approx £4k inc all extras ,most carpet cleaners would be using tm & offering a deep clean process.

after reading all these replies its makes me wonder if there would have been such a fuss if glynn had said 'must be a 'NCCA member' or 'must use Microsplitters'

If he'd said these thing he would have been commended for  promoting proffesionallism within the industry. but because he's reccomending a T/M user  he gets all this stick.

There is nothing wrong with reccomending & promoting something that you believe in, if their was then All the NCCA members on this board should be banned because everytime a new starter asks a question the. first thing they say is contact the NCCA.

They give this advice because they believe in the NCCA, ( and there's nothing wrong with that)  so why can't Glynn promote what he believes in,  After all he's trying to help a fellow carpet cleaner by passing on a job.

Thanks Mike, for putting it in context.

On a smaller matter though, the job has now been sorted, thanks to Dave Parry.

Dave,

       Point taken  ;D.

I am thinking of investing in a Manx next year, seem like quite powerfull machine.

Can Truck Mounts be used on upholstery or do you guys stick to portys for this type of work?

Regards
Peter ;)

Peter

From a personal prospective I prefer my portable on upholstery that is booked, however once I get to the customer for carpets they may add upholstery to the job then it’s the tm, as I don’t carry every thing!

All I can say every cleaning system has its place and TM’s can and do have logistical problems where as other do not!

Thanks  Glynn.

Peter,
I cant keep my porty on the van, so l use my t/m for upholstery. No probs, isnt any quicker but does leave suite a lot dryer. Only use my porty for curtain Jobs, and would rather not do that. Cleaning them is ok, just too much hastle swopping kit on and off the van.

Glad to see youve filled profile in.

Hello people,
Just thought id add my 2pennith worth here, I first saw a truckmount 13yrs ago when i worked at prochem and i must say after being in business for just over 2yrs now my aim is to have one.

Now you could say why diddnt you just buy one when you started out?

Well i have used portables for the last 12 years and belive they do a great job provided you use them properly i.e. pre vac spot removal prespray etc. and i  feel in London where i carry out my business a porty is an essiential piece of kit as not all jobs are accessible, also the TM is something i want to work for, it is one of my goals, my businees now is booked most of the time 2-3 weeks in advance and during the summer months i have been turning down £300-£500 worth of work a week!! so a TM could solve some of these problems and bring in more capitial :)

At the end of the day its a personal choice and for me its a goal to aim for, which i will achieve. weather it pays off for me or not dosent really matter as i will  have another 5yr goal to aim for. the ultimate goal for me is to never work for a boss again and provide for my family ;D

So there you go

I am not knocking portables infact i hear that in London for instance due to parking problems they are more beneficial, personally i couldnt imagine using truckmounts in them sort of areas due to logistical problems, when i started ADL i had only had my carpets cleaned twice (both by Glynn) first time he used his portable and the second he had his truckmount and following the clean with the truckmount it was by far a more proffesional and superior clean, i opted to by a truckmount as my first machine. I have only had a three jobs where i havnt been able to get the TM in and have had to sub the job out two were in banks and one in the middle of a shopping centre, so for our area it is not worth me buying a portable machine for the amount of work that i have to turn away, the only argument i could see to this is that what would i do if the tm broke down, the simple answer is that i would rather spend the time fixing the tm than cleaning with a portable.
regards Dave ADL

PS Glynn you left a stain in my bedroom carpet but not to worry i cant get it out either ;)

Nick,

A sensible post amongst a thread that was largely as Chris predicted it would be.

John.

PS. Lee, If  a TM was available for £400.00, I still would not replace the one I dumped years ago - it is only of use when it can be used, the rest of the time it is just a liabiliy.
