leak!!!!

I had a leak coming from round my heating element on my woodbridge powerplus, I took it off and found it was gobbed up with loads of silicone and sealant tape.
Should there be a couple of washers holding the element in and stopping water lash out??
Cheers
Andy

No that's how woodbridge put it together.A complete hash job really, you just have to replace it the same way.Years ago they shortened the thread on the heating element, which makes it a pain in the rear.

What silicone should I use, Do I have to use something that can withstand the heat??

Also whilst I have your attention, should the wire I am holding be attached to the bit next to the hole for the element??
Cheers

I suspect that's not a wire but a very thin capilliary tube for the thermostat. If it is then the thermostat will need replacing.

B&Q do a sealant (LS-X) from Fernox suitable for temps from below freezing to above boiling point of water.
