There are so many! I'm getting confused!

I have bought the main wand I'll be using, but still need a) something for stairs / edging and b) upholstery tool.

I was thinking maybe the prochem glidemaster at £95 for the stairs and edges, which is a hand tool - could this be used on upholstery too?

Also, there are stair tools that look like mini versions of the full wand - should I get one like this as well as a glidemaster?

Any advice from an experienced operator would be appreciated.

Hand tools and upholstery tools are very different, so you need one of each.  I have the 4" Glidemaster you've mentioned and i love it. I've seen a similar one at Alltec but as a 6" which looks very tempting.

Although some people use the the excellent CFR for upholstery and carpets (just a quick change of jets, takes about 5 seconds) I prefer to keep a dedicated upholstery tool so that there's little chance of damage to the lips, which could easily snag the yarn on fabric.

for stairs i use a 4 or 6inch curtain tool (with the perferated holes) for upholstery i use a CFR. i also have a 2inch edging tool with a brissle head for filtration soiling, a couple more just in case.

Try and get yourself a mini wand they are a godsend. Brill for straight stairs and saves loads of time. You still need a carpet hand tool for very tight bends on staircases though. Dont forget, you can use the mini wand on other tight areas like bathrooms/WC's etc 

A good handtool for uph is essential, Drimaster, Kleenrite, CFR etc etc, make sure its got a swivel head as it will be easier to manouvre and less wrist strain. CFR is good but quite difficult to use.
