« on: May 04, 2007, 10:26:44 pm »
.......to clean windows using a water fed pole? i've benn wfping now for 15 months and have never been shown, learnt the ropes myself. i'm on my second bloke now and he still can't do it, it drives me mad!!!! >:( >:( >:(

i show them time after time how to do it and still no joy. spots from insufficient rinsing and water marks running the length of the window, it really gets to me. more annoying tho is the guy i've got with me know can canvass like you'd never beleive ;D ;D, he just has this nak of getting poads of new work. he's been out three nights for me and got me £210 day 1, £120 day 2 and £140 day 3. when i say day i mean he finishes work and goes out from 5-8.30.
i said to him today about just going out canvassing all the time as he likes it and is obviously good but he keeps telling me he wants to be a window cleaner, even tho i said he'd earn more canvassing!!!!!!!! he must be mad ??? ??? ???

anybody else have probs with people not being able to wfp?

Be careful that as he wants to be a window cleaner himself he may do a weeks canvassing for you and then think, to hell with giving you this work, I may as well do it myself!

Personally I would keep him onboard and just percivere with training him, send him on a course, maybe BWCA WFP course, ok it costs you £95 but from what you say about his canvassing skills he is worth that all day long!

I dont think a course is nescessary, like you said your self taught
How about rigging up a window for him on your house or his. spray dirt, eggs etc all over it. Leave him to it until he gets it right. Its difficult out on a customers job, to hang about waiting for windows to dry and then inspect them. He'll soon get the nack and work out what he's doing wrong.

My only reasson for a course is it is being carried out by a third party.

Sometimes employees are reluctant to ask questions as they fear looking stupid, alternatively as it is the boss teaching them they can sometimes take it with a pinch of salt and not take you seriously.

If you have paid for them to do a course they will feel obliged to learn as they know you are investing in them. The pressure is on them to pass as a fial will take a lot of explaining particularly if it coems out of their own pocket if they fail?

Whatever path you choose to take, be it the self teach or course route percivere with it.

trev, when he goes canvassing, he tells them we'll be there the following day and i collect all details from him that evening.

i'm based in bexley, kent. near dartford.

good idea cybersye, looks like all the family will end up with nice clean windows.

thanks to all ;)

I'm in Crawley.  Want to rent him out?   :)

Hi Jon

I will teach him WFP in exchange for some canvassing.   ;D

Seriously whats he doing wrong get him to stand back more aswell as rinse more and i bet that will sort the problems out.

Or buy him a squeegie and applicator and get him to do traditional that way he could do downstairs and some inside cleans or bungalows.

Jon try getting him to leave the brush on the window and rinse by tilting the brush so one edge is off the glass and move the brush along the top and work his way down if it does not sheet.

I expect he is not good at aiming the water at the window and is not rinsing the top properly
