Went canvassing today in some village, cant remember the name, but there was already a window cleaner. you know the sort, 8 pound jobbie

any ways, he didn't appear to do a good job didn't wipe frames or sills, and one of his customers said he had even started to use spray (and put his prices up!) i have to laugh at that bit,

anyways i walked around counted the windows then  added 2 quid on, she said, "no no thats too expensive he only charges £18. i was thinking to myself, hang on. he does a crap job isnt regular and your moaning over 6 pounds, what did she want. a good clean for cheaper?

anways i went to more houses same guy, but normally as a window cleaner you lose work to someone under cutting you. i over cutted him (if such a word exist) and still got the work. is that theft

i did tell them to get in contact with him and tell him that they will no longer be requiring his services

No of course not. If the customers are unhappy with the service he is providing, then its up to them if they want to change!

nope not at all, if you dont look after people, you expect to loose them

i recently picked up 4 customers from someone who didnt look after them, been doing them 4 months! the other day he had turned up while they were out after 7 or 8 months and just cleaned them, i wasnt happy, and they werent either, it took me twice as long and then had to explain to them that the windows may not be perfect this time...again.

of course i did get them perfect but wanted to make sure they knew what a mess he'd  made, did them tradional in case you were wondering.

they said he was gonna have a shock when he turned up to collect...ha

indeed, what people say here doesnt matter, its the other guy who you are stealing his work off him that you really should be trying to convince

I can relate to what your saying m8, i wouldnt be very happy if someone do it to me, but at the moment i do my mums wfp wich is quite rear around here. Anyway straight to the point next door but one wanted me to do hers then over the road and then next door and so on, i do kinda feel bad for the guy who does the others coz i know sooner or later i will take them to.

   Some window cleaners charge extra for cleaning sills/frames. Maybe this is why the other window cleaner is cheaper. Either way, you have to be a little careful upsetting other cleaners.

Ive seen posts on this forum where people get their windows smashed simply for turning up in the same areas as other cleaners. Dont want to cause you concern old bud just trying to advise.

I've found that customers are usually OK even if you do get a bit behind.  It's when you get a lot behind, on a number of occasions that they can get the hump.  Mind you, the bit about "look after you customers and they will look after you" I have found to not necessarily be so.  Sometimes you can really put yourself out for people and they still take liberties.  So I tend not to do that now.  I have found that if you respectfully stand your ground, they do tend to be a bit more respectful in the main.  A regular, reliable service for a high end of the range price is what I try to give.
As for the guy losing work, I don't suppose he will lose any sleep over it.  I lost a 17 pounder the other day.  Was a good price but if truth be told, there were some awful, shoulder wrenchng angles to use the pole at.  I got a phone call cancelling because her old window cleaner had turned up from where she used to live.  Now this job can only be done with WFP and I know a guy from Horley has been canvassing that area so I assume that it's him.  My point is that I lost a 17 pounder and on three consecutive days gained a 13 pounder, a 14 pounder and a 20 pounder.  None of them have shoulder wrenching angles and I didn't have to look for any of them.

Quite funny really as one of my customers told me how some guy knocked at her door and started the patter about how much better pure water is for window cleaning.  When he had finished, she told him that she knew because her current window cleaner already used it.  Hope he's got a sense of humour.
