Cleaning Nicotine Off Glass
« on: April 28, 2007, 09:24:33 pm »
I clean a club house near me inside and out and i hate cleaning the inside coz its coated in nicotine and to show you how bad it is im a smoker and when i go in there in the morning there workers are there sitting at the table smoking and there is this layer of smoke hovering in the air in the club house at 9.30am so god knows what its like at night time and like i said i smoke and i just cant breath in there but they are stopping smoking in the club in July and they have asked me to give it a good clean to get it all off.
So my question is whats the best stuff to get nicotine off the glass?

i did this once in a hospital smoke room way bad i found you cant beat the good old bleach smear it on neat with one terry towel leave for five min then wipe of with clean toweling then was as normal takes a bit of time but once its of its off ,nothing worse than soaping up a window and your squgee comes to an abrupt stop and the nicotine is running down your wrist yuk horrible stuff to deal with
but thats what worked for me

I'm not saying it's the best way.  In fact there are probably loads better.  What I do is soap up the glass then go over it with one of thos abrasive washing up pads (making sure it's fine enough not to scratch the glass).  This loosens things up quite a bit.  Then I go over it with a squeegee.  Might have to repeat a few times if it doesn't all come off at first.

If you can wait a bit spray with water/pure water leave and will run off, proceed to clean with what ever.

Mix in a good bit of ammonia to your solution and it powers thru nicotene, just dont get any in your eyes as it stings like hell

The best thing to use when cleaning the inside of pub/club windows is Ubik. It's a blue cleaning liquid, sold by Compton Cleaning for those who live near Plymouth, and a splash in your bucket, along with your normal fairy liquid will clean nicotine a treat, honest. I've never found anything to touch it. At about £7 for 5l it's great value too.
We know we're the best, you know we're the best, I guess we can't both be wrong!!!

A friend of mine uses Screen Wash in his water and said he finds it gets most things off the glass.

Bazzy. :)

Theres a product called Oil-Flo 141, which is very good! use a green backed sponge with some soapy water, wet the window up apply the oil-flo and then blade the window off, you may then need to wet the window up and blade off again in order to remove any residue.

You can buy the product from most cleaning suppliers, We get ours from Federation of Window Cleaners, as they sell it quite cheap to members.

Simon :)

Believe it or not I know someone who tried putting vinegar in his pure water to see if it would kill the fairy residue on his first pure water clean.....lol
I could not convince him it wouldnt work... needless to say all the window had that very bright rainbow sheen like when you mix oil/water/vinegar....

Joey Deacon spring to mind.....

Nothing's better for cleaning nicotine than ammonia. It completely disolves it on contact, no rubbing or leaving to soak. It stinks a bit but hey hoe - leave the windows open.
