R O System Upgrade advice
« on: April 26, 2007, 08:52:04 am »
I currently run an omnipole pro 300gpd r/o with booster pump.
I have a requirement to produce 1000ltrs of pure 5 days a week
and it does not hack it .
Is there anything I can do to boost production??
or do I need to upgrade to a better R/O
If an upgrade is required what is the best one ??
Any advice guys
Cheers Russ

Russ,

If what you mean is 1000 litres per day - my opinion is that you'll need to upgrade to a Merlin or a 4040!

There the only 2 that I know of that will give you that level of production but someone more knowledgable might be able to add to that list.

Hi Russ, if you are looking at 5000ltrs a week then really the 4040 is the one to go for.

It is possible with a 300gpd system but remember 300USGPD = 1134ltrs so 1000ltrs would really be pushing the ro to its limit.  A merlin will easily produce 1000ltrs of pure a day but if your tds is high then you may not get the rejection levels that a 4040 will give you.

My recommendation is a 4040.

Thanks JM123
my tds is around 500 in and 15 out
the ro has an aquatec booster pump.
I have just measured the production and it took 6 mins to fill a 2 litre bottle!
So thats under 500 litres a day !
No wonder I am running short.
The membranes and filters are 6 months old
I have new filters that I will be changing at the weekend.
Will that make any difference at all??
With the Merlin and 40/40 I have heard the waste is very high?
I am on a water meter so need the best from the r/o I buy

Russ.. I run a 40/40 ro and its set at 50% pure 50% waste and it fills my 1000L tank in around 5 hours.
My tap tds is around 300 and mains tap psi is 90 and after 40/40 my tds is down to 004 then polished off to 000 and im on a meter aswell  :'(
Hope it helps in some way.

Use an IBC tank to collect your rainwater from your guttering to save water usage if you're on a meter.

I have a pumped 300gpd RO and I achieve around the same rate as you - 6 minutes per 2 litre bottle (20 litres per hour which is about 480 litres per day).  As I work on my own I manage OK  with that though.  If I have some heavy days on back to back, I work it so that I fill up in the evening to allow the RO  to produce overnight.
I have a horrible feeling that you may have to live with highish waste levels in order to reach your production target.

500 in is pretty high - your best setup would be a water softener into a 4040, if your mains pressure is low then you'll need a booster pump as well.

Hi Russ
I got a 4040 with booster pump and it gives 1000L of very pure water in about 5 hrs.  My tds will be about the same as where you are.

Simon.

The water softener 3500L and ro with booster pump was around £1700 ouch.

But it makes more pure water than you could shake a stick at.

we can supply the 4040 stainless steel built for £650 with steel pushfit connectors.  For a softener I'll need to get back to you on a price, as for a booster pump the mori pumps we supply are £580 but many on here use the clarke which I think is about £210.

mine cant get any where near it. I have a 4040, 17 months old. tap tds 76in 16 out. I also have a Clarke booster pump, New filters dont make any diffrence. My ro is on the way out I think.

I was going to get the 300gpd RO man and pressure regulator pump also from RO -man. This seems cheap at £80.  Should I get better booster pump????

the pressure regulator pump is a booster pump, it will keep the pressure high to ensure max production - my advice is don't bother, the very minimum you want to be looking at is a merlin - which is a very good system but depending on the makeup of your water your tds out may be relatively high.

Mine has 256 tds in and the inline tds is 7 tds out  that's a 4040 with booster pump that's probably a Clarke
