Removing SuperGlue from Laminate Worktop
« on: April 22, 2007, 07:02:09 am »

Can anyone help me out here with some advice thanks.I`ve got some Superglue on
My kitchen laminate work top surface and so far I`ve tried a green scrubby pad and
Fairy soap but to no avail.I don`t want to risk `dulling` the laminate with too much
Rubbing. What can anyone recommend? Thanks in advance for replies.

lewis,

Loctite do a super glue remover that you could try!

or Acetone (nail polish remover), but be careful as it can dull dark surface laminates!

Personally I would use one of those small Dremel type sanding disks to chip away carefully most of the glue off first, then use the glue remover in one or two stages while wiping with lint free or microfibre cloth, then use a plastics scratch remover to polish!

lets us know how you get on!

How big is the glue spot.  I ask as I have removed the same type of glue to a laminate top but it wasnt very big.

What I did was this, it took forever but worked completely.

I cut a clear plastic tube, which was a little bigger than the spot around and about two inches high.
Filled it up with very hot water, not boiling and then left it alone.

I rigged up a plate to place over the tube to stop the water leaking out the bottom.

I did this maybe 10 times over a couple of hours.

Super glue is water soluble and water being a solvent did the trick.

I didnt want to use any detergents or a more traditional solvent as I didnt know the reaction that may occur with the laminate.

Best, Dave.

i had the same problem on  high black gloss worktops.

wet the area, then a little fairy liquid, and then a window scrapper, should come off with ease.
