Hi Steve
Just thought that if you were near Birmingham you might want to come and see one of the jobs I'm on at the moment so that you could judge from that maybe.
Building firms will not really be interested in hourly/daily rate for the main job... extras would be different but for the main site they would want a price for the job.
You will need to make sure your PL is up to scratch, they normally want a minimum of £5 million.
Health and safety policies, method statements and risk assessments are also a must and can prove to be expensive but well worth the initial investment (
www.rams.org.uk are great for these).
If you can, you should get them to agree weekly payment and invoicing as they will expect 30 or even 60 days payable from the end of the month (eg - work done in April, billed at end of April, payable either end of May or even end of June). Most of them will insist on monthly instead of weekly, but it is worth offering an incentive for them to agree to this. Just make sure you don't devote all of your time to them as you will have cashflow problems in the first couple of months.
You will also need your CIS card (if you haven't got it already).
Call me if you are interested in coming down or you want any other info.
