I've got hands on one for a few days to try out before I buy one. what's the optimum pressure to use with it ( I have upto 800psi) and should I use a larger jet & lower PSI or visa-versa

       I've been using the cfr handtool for about 6 months now and pressure and jet size depends what your cleaning. I find on delicate upholstery materials use jet size red no 1 and the optimum pressure on about 200-250 psi.Heavier cloths ie draylon jet size green no2 same pressure. I tend to use bigger jet sizes for stairs and spotting, you can turn the pressure up to around 400 psi on the largest jet size no 4 blue.
I'm pretty sure this applies to all machines (TM/portable) although i can only advise on using the cfr handtool with my cfr machine.The most important thing to remember when cleaning upholstery with this tool is to lift the material off the foam whilst applying water.I tend to achieve drying time on a suite about 30 mins with the added use of an air mover.
One more use, if you take the handtool away from the jet you can then use the jet to help clean down your equipment after use.

I also use the CFR handtool at a pressure of 200 psi on upholstery fabrics and as Joe has already said the spray tip can be changed to suit the fabric

The general recommend pressure range for this tool is 100-1000psi.

For most upholstery I use 200-250psi with a no.1 jet.

On carpets, as rule of thumb you can use any pressure that does not lead to side-spill but there are recommended pressure/jet combinations on the label on the head of the tool.

Hi Mike,

The maximum usable PSI for the CFR 3” & 5” Combo hand tools would be up to 500psi depending on fibre or fabric type. You’ll get a happy medium through practice.

The CFR wands, Special Purpose Hand Tool and hard floor cleaning tools can be used at up to 1000psi.

Would the hand/upholstery tool work with say steempro 70/100 psi

I don't know how well the atomisation would work at 70psi, but feel sure that the tool would be useable. At 100psi it certainly does work, and well.

Hi Len,

The tool works very well with 100-psi extractors with 80-psi being the minimum operating pressure required for atomisation to take place.  It comes into its own league when used with high performance portables and truck mounts, which are capable of much higher solution pressures.

I have tried it with a 60-psi spotting machine but it didn’t give the desired rinsing action.

Quite right Len,

My understanding is that to achieve the results of which this tool is capable, the jet output combines with the air drawn in through the back slots to produce an atomised blast that is also to some extent supercharged by the airflow through these back slots.

The reason why Steve has said that some experimentation is required is that the working characteristics of the tool are affected by both the airflow and the solution pressure hence the variations between individual machines.

I've cleaned 2 suites with it today and am very impressed so tonite i'm going to order one from World of Clean.

I'm getting the tool with 3 inch head, the 5 inch head a yellow jet ( it comes with the red) should I buy the big 7inch head, anyone use one?

I got the large 7 inch head and its very heavy and awkward to use IMO.  It really needs a grab handle.  I used it on stairs and didnt like it at all but cleaned the base of a suite (very large arms) once in record time.

Is the 5inch head better/quicker for cleaning upholstery.

Now I've slept on it I've decided that no tool is worth £500 so I'm glad WOC was not working
