Why dont they ask?
« on: April 04, 2007, 08:48:33 pm »
My van is all sign writen up so its clear for all to see what i do. I've been getting the odd con roof but not as many as i want so over the last few weeks i have been asking my customers & those around if they are interested.

All have said yes & i've only now only got Sunday off  :o. It's not as if i'm going in cheap either.

Macc,

Maybe they just don't know you can and are willing to do this sort of stuff.

I advertise it on my 'Your Window Cleaner Has Been' chits under a section called, 'Other Services'.

Sorry, Macc, I can't.  My scanner is U/S and I use a Sherif Page Plus to do my chits on; not Word Format.

But basically I have:

Other Services

We also offer:

Gutter and Soffit Cleaning

Facia Cleaning

Conservatory Roof Cleaning

I did a conservatory roof today.
Took me 10-15 mins and she gave me £10.

I'll have more of them please. :)

Macc,

Your 'direct marketing technique' (sounds posh I know) is what's brought in the extra business.  My chits don't really work; I haven't done a conservatory roof clean (apart from the one I do every month) in ages.

Tosh.

Your right mate, as you know i've plenty of front so i think i'm going to keep on with the "direct marketing technique".

Had another call half an hour ago, got another 1 to do on Monday, full day now  ;D. Have to take the mrs out for a meal in the evening or i'll get it in the neck big time  ::).

Hi
And of course each new conservatory clean is a potential re-clean in 6 to 12 months.

10-15 minutes for £10 and I need to charge more? ???

I didn't do delicate brain surgery, I washed her roof with a brush and water.
I think nearly a pound a minute should cover it. ::)

Rog - if you're doing a "lean-to" roof regularly each time with the windows then your price is fine but if it's an "edwardian" once a year and it's covered in algae then it might take a couple of hours/half a day (because the sides will get messy with "run off" and you'll have to do them too.) so then you need to charge £40-£100 depending on the size and type.
It's a game of three halves!

i do a glass roof lean too every time the i do the house ( thus 6 weeks ) and it takes me 10 mins, she pays me 25 quid for it , madness, it really is

Rog. Min charge for a glass roof if it takes me 15 mins is £20-£25.

Take your tax out, buying the kit, running costs, replacing the van, servicing it etc & your not earning much out of that £10.

That's ridiculous Macc!

If the house is £10 and takes 15-20 mins (was 25 mins trad), the how can you justify twice the rate for 15 mins of simple flat roof panes?

It`s justified for the reasons Macc just said, running costs, poles resin, filters, diesel it all adds up in the grand scheme of things £10 is nothing over the course of the day.

::), Rog, you need to recoup your investment plus reinvest money all the time. You say you want to buy a newer van soon, how are you going to do that turning over small amounts?

Its not greed its buisness! The only way to get out of the credit & debt run is your rates to cover these things.

Its ridiculos to only charge what gives you a living & not have the spare income to invest in equipment.
