Window Cleaners Who Impose On Housewife's
« on: March 26, 2007, 03:55:30 pm »
Hi,

If During the next few days a man calls at your house & wants to clean the windows , ask to see his credentials.

Many clever rogues have found the industrial depression a very good excuse to pose as poor unfortunates thrown out of work through no will of their own.  They have taken up window cleaning in order to make a few coppers-so they say.

They make their few coppers easily enough from the believing housewife but they make far more from the portable articles they can lay their hands on.

An expert window cleaner thief only works for about three months in a year, but he never visits the same house twice. At the end of three months he can retire from work & spend the rest of the year in luxury living on his takings.

So clever are these posers, and with such skill do they tell their tales of misfortune that it is no great wonder that many good ladies are taken in.

There is only one thing to do, and that is to steel one's heart in the future, and "The People" is taking this opportunity of warning housewife's against their own well-meant but unwise charity.

" The People," Sunday May 3rd 1926.

If housewife's will take the advice so often given in our columns of engaging insured men who are members of one of our local agencies, they will have less anxiety as to the credentials of the men they employ.

We fear that in many cases it is the saving of an odd penny that causes many people to engage any man that comes along willing to work cheap, irrespective of whether he can earn a living wage or not.

The public should safeguard themselves by only employing a window cleaner who has an established address.
