What should I put on my wish list?
« on: August 20, 2004, 05:44:57 pm »
Hi guys,

I'm attending the ncca course next month and hope, all going well, to be up and running by the end of October.

I know there are a few preferred hwe's which have been discussed before, so I won't go into that one.  I also note that micro-splitters are the choice of most, so I won't go into that either.  However, what else would you suggest I need to set myself up for domestic carpet and upholstery work.  For instance, which is a suitable sebo vac and are they any better than a dyson animal?, what do you use to agitate the carpets, any other accessories you use regularly (keep it clean you lot).

Basically I want to be able to ask the right questions at the course and not walk away thinking of all the questions I should have asked.  In addition I don't want to be running out to the shops every 5 minutes because I've suddenly realised that I need such and such a thing in order to do the job professionally.

I presume a cc retailer would give me training and all the goods I need to make it work, however, what if I buy 2nd hand!

Many thanks & best regards
Cheryl

Derek

Don't worry, many of the people on the NCCA course will be new and as apprehensive as you...by the end of the two days you will all be firm friends.

The two trainers, Paul and Pawlo don't bite (unless you forget to feed them that is  ;)) so don't be afraid to ask questions.  There is no such thing as a daft question!

Ask me nicely and I will come up  with a   ;D few real stinkers for you...

All the things you want to know will be answered and much of the equipment you are enquiring about will be there and demonstrated.

Have fun

Derek

PS...  Don't forget to come to the Carpex 2004 exhibition in London on October 8th and 9th...  an excellent chance to see 'all' the equipment and to talk to NCCA members on the stand to ask any more questions you may have
plus twenty seminars.....'all free'...what MORE could a girl ask for!

Hi there Derek, many thanks the reassurance.

Re Carpex, I nearly booked but a swift dig in the ribs from my 'other half' reminded me that I get married that weekend.

Thanks again.

Cheryl,

The Sebo BS36 will suit very well. Since you will doubtless be budget conscious, a Sebo Duo will probably be you best choice for agitation. Nick at Solutions-UK is offering a very good deal on the pair at the moment.

If you budget will stretch to it an air-mover should also be near the top of your list.

After buying the main equipment, you have now to buy the cleaning accessories, example sprayers, terry towels, protector pads, buckets, various brushes, overshoes, ppe to name a few.

I understand Nick is also doing a good deal on electric/battery sprayers. That’s me being lazy ;D have a prochem one.

Any way all the best at the ncca

Dave,

It is not only easier to use a twin brush, contra-rotating device,  because it works in the vertical plane a Sebo Dou does a better job.

I believe the best price is currently being offered by Nick at Solutions (01726 852880) but check also A&M of Watford (aandmcs.co.uk). Both give excellent service.

John.

I advise to keep it simple. For agitation on a domestic job, use a long  handled carpet brush (Prochem do an excellent one - had my first one for 26 years and used it today). For spraying,  a few 1 to 1.5 litre pump up sprayers and some trigger sparayers are all you need.

Small is beautiful in my book. Saves money, saves space, saves heavy lifting, saves on maintenance, and for domestic jobs probably won't use up any more time.

Don't be tempted by quantity discounts on cleaning chemicals until you find out which ones you really like

Many thanks everyone.

I have to say that I'm probably going to go the cheap and cheerful way to agitation, especially as I'm just starting up and need to spend any spare cash on further marketing.  Hopefully it won't be too long before I can progress to the sebo duo.  After I've been on the ncca course I'll write up a shopping list and then get on to everyone for the best place to buy - I'm the epitome of the female shopper - it's expensive, it must be good.

Thanks for the pointers though, it helps to get things into perspective.

Cheers for now.
