Hi All

I've been in the process to set up my cleaning business.
This will be mainly office and commercial cleaning.
I've started to advertise and my first enquiry (possibly my first work) was for a refurbished big house.
I've been contacted by the owner to do a total clean on it including windows,will come to see the property next week.
To do this type of work will I need something more than insurance.
I've been read the posts and read something about ( CIS) card,will need this to?
Please could someone give me an idea,because I don't know what to do,if come to see the property and quote,or turn it down.
This is my first enquiry and I never done builders clean before.

Anyone who is self employed and working within the construction industry either permanently or sub contracting needs to be CIS registered.

This is where the contractor deducts a percentage of your invoice directly from the price of the invoice to cover the tax liability against it.  It was brought in because a lot of people were getting to the end of the tax year and finding they had p**sed the money for their tax bill up the wall.  So now it is taken off at source, very similar to PAYE, you then get a voucher to show what tax you have paid through this system.

its being revamped no more CIS cards,  and monthly declarations,  cis will still be deducted

CIS was introdiuced to cut out cash contractrs avoiding tax

Hi Guys

Thank's for your help.
As I understand from your replies with or without CIS Card,
Tax have to be paid anyway.
This means if I quote for a job say 200 quid they take from it 20%  I'll get only 160 I'm right?
From that example if you going to quote for a job and after put all togheter,hours,equipment,products etc you see you must receive 200 quid will you quote 250 that after 20% tax will give your 200 ?

No!

You still quote £200, even though the contractor takes his percentage and Pays you what is left , he must issue you with a CIS25 (CIS Tax payment Voucher), this voucher you use to claim back that money from the Tax Man either in PAYE or Self Assessment.

This is the easiest way to expalin it.  YOU MUST BE CIS REGISTERED, even after April this year, you just don't need the card any more.
