Although new to forum, have been window cleaning for 24 years. Many posts on the forum seem to be recent starters or few years at it. Any other lifers out there?

Steve, trad with no plans to change. Am 100% domestic including many bungalows and a mobile home park. Lots of my customers get inside done too. Wouldn't really benefit me, but don't have a closed mind.  Peter

I have a stepladder. It's a very nice stepladder but it's sad that I never knew my real ladder

Why does that not surprise me. I have to say I'm struggling to come to terms with WFP. I know its quicker, and ideal commercially or where access is diff. Cuts down ladder work - but How do you know if the bird poo is off? You can't scrape with a WFP can you? Also I get the feeling many customers just don't like it.I know the WFP guys will recommend but i'm not sold that it is better. Peter

Hi Blackbushe
Ive also been cleaning for 24years
Man and Boy

in answer to your qustion?
you know when the s..t is of the window when you rinse it
if there is any left on,
the water sort of runs around to the sides of it
the tip is to soak the muck first and the go back and scrub it
only been on the pole since july last year and  putting on weight
going to have to get on my bike in the summer and lose a few pounds :D

i first went wfp 9 years ago but only lasted a week and sent it back saying it would never catch on, the customers where ready to lynch me for leaving their windows wet , but due tyo Health and safety we had to give it another go 18 months since, the first clean of work was a nightmare but customers can now see it does work and are more reseptive to it , unlike traditional you do get the odd job that dries not perfect on occasions and you rack your brain wondering what went wrong but this only happens occasionally and less and less when you know what to look for ie vents , hot sun on glass and dirty brush from first cleans.

Started in 1989 in the US with pure Water learned how to do trad fixing all the pure water problems and went completely trad in 1996, still trad now but may look into wfp as the technology seems much better now
Im still not sure if I have the patience for it though, Im yet to go out in the morning only to find that my ladder won't start ;D

Nearly up there with Telboy.  I'm 62, been window cleaning for nearly 40 yrs.  Changed to WFP two years ago - glad of it now, but I wouldn't have missed all the experiences I've had over the years - "jumping" (climbing out of the window and standing on the sill to clean it) Bosun's chair - the easiest way to clean windows - you sit down all day.  Ragging - cleaning a whole victorian "three decker" London school with just a damp scrim - inside and out and all the partitions.

Happy memories.

S**t myself when I think of the risks we used to take, but in those days it was the accepted way of doing things.

Cheers,

Ian

Hi. Coming on 20 years for me. I switched to Wfp 16 months ago now, i could not take any more of trad & the risks, i found as i got older i became more aware of risks. The best move i made.

I enjoy my work now & would take alot for me to change trades.

First worked as a shiner in 1958 When I was 16. Stuck at it for a year and moved on. Went back to it in 1993 following redundancy from my engineering job.
I have been WFP since August 05. Dai
