Best place to site a tank ?
« on: March 12, 2007, 09:39:24 pm »
Chapter 3 - Installing the tank !!!  ;D

Van bought, signwritten and floor painted with protecktacote.  Phew  ::)

Next question :  Can I site the 600ltr tank over the rear axle ? or has it got to be behind the seats as did in the Convoy ? Van is a Citroen Relay BTW.

Are you fed up of my questions yet   ;) as there are plenty more to come in the writing of this novel  ;)

You have to be careful of not putting too much weight over one axle as this can be illegal too. So even if a payload was, say 1000kg it may be that, say, a maximum of 600 on one particular axle may be allowed.

Has your van got a metal bulkhead and has it got side doors?
It's a game of three halves!

No metal bulkhead and a sliding side door.

Does that make a difference Malc ?

Sarah, tryto distribute the load as evenly as possible - it will help to stabilise the vehicle - improving safety.

I would get a metal bulkhead fitted because I would not like a pole in the back of the head  :o or being crushed by a flying tank

I did manage to have my old Unger pole crack the windscreen when I had a van without a bulkhead.  I was cleaning trad then too.  Didn't cost me anything as I had to scrap the van a few weeks later anyway.

Thanks everyone.

A serious question though.

If the tank is fitted properly and professionally is there any safety reason why a bulkhead should be installed ?

Our poles will be housed in casings with front ends to stop forward movement. BTW and cosmetically we plan to conceal the tank  over the rear axle to keep the floor area by the slding door free for the trolley.

All comments gratefully received and taken on-board  ;)
