How to Connect IBC Tanks x 2 ?
« on: March 11, 2007, 08:30:39 am »
I have just purchased a second IBC Tank to use for pure water storage.
My first one has a hole cut in top so that I could get the sub pump in.
Now instead of cutting a hole in the second one and dropping the pump in everytime does anyone know how to connect the two tanks together so that I can draw from both equally??
Any ideas people ??? ???

Russ,
I had this set up until recently.

I used large heavy duty green commercial hose super re-inforced stuff, 13/4 or 2in, i cant remember measure outlet. All you do is open both outlets connect pipe using jubilee clips then you are away.

Fill from one tank & they rise & fall simultaneously.

Very easy with right hose, just put transfer pump in from top so you dont need the outlets you,re already using.

Hi Russ,
this is what you need, fit one on each outlet at the bottom have them turned facing each other and link them with a short piece of pipe,

If you could send pic of them connected it would be much appreciated.
What sort of hose /size have you used and are the spouts you used threaded on the end.
Cheers Russ

Hi,

We join them together using ordinary solvent weld 1.5" drain pipe and fittings, bought from any plumbers' merchant.  The secret is to cut the bend off the outlet elbow, and to then hammer a short piece of 1.5" pipe in from the end which fits onto the tank, until it protrudes a couple of inches from the end you've just cut.  It's an interference fit, so doesn't need any solvent, PTFE tape or anything.  Having done that, you simply carry on in 1.5" pipe, using solvent, tees, elbows, etc.

Hope this helps.

russ I can't get any pics of it as the outlets face the wall (pushed up against the wall).  Its simple mate, you only need 2 tank outlets and some piping to go over the outlets (normally 28mm)
