Testing
« on: August 17, 2004, 10:32:31 pm »
My Mrs wants to know if I have lost the plot. No work today so I popped around my mate’s carpet shop where he kindly gave me about 50 fair size carpet samples, ranging from 100% wool, 80-20s to nylons.
Laid them all out on the patio and decorated them with coffee, tea, nail varnish, red wine and anything else in cupboard, turned around to see the wife and she asked is that for the Tate Moden or do I need to make an appoint with the doctor.
Does anyone else test like or do I need the appointment.

No Eric you are perfectly sane (regarding this anyway!) I have today chucked some coffee over some wool samples at different temps, some black, some with milk.
Maybe we are both mad! My wife also looking at me suspiciously.....

Eric,

Well done mate - a chance to experiment and to practise some of the riskier techniques.

I have often been seen dragging old carpets from skips for this very purpose - I prefer that the staining agent mixes with general soiling to create a more realistic test.

Lessons learnt in this manner are best remembered.

John.

I can't remember the combination of chemicals now but I remeber experimenting on a red stain which would not shift. I poured a bit of everything on and the sample started to smoke!  :o

Imagine that in a customer's lounge, "It's ok Mrs Smith I'm using a new advanced technique!"  ;D
