I don't know what the current rating of your relay is, but if your battery is asking for more current than your relay can supply, then it will burn out eventually.

It could be an indication of a faulty battery, now demanding more and more current, get your battery checked out.

Not really, need to know the current rating of the relay, if you have a link to a web for this relay, I could have a look.

Sorry Vivaro, with out the spec of the relay, I can't work out its ratings. ask them in the shop to write down the specs for you.

Mind you if there anything like the guy's in the Maplins shop by me, they won't have a clue. ::)

The only thing I can say to you at the moment, is that you have 115 amp battery, if it runs down to much, when it starts to charge up again, it will demand a high current for a short period, if the relay is not man enough for this high demand then it will blow fuses, this should have happened to yours, you didn't replace it with a higher rated one did you?
If you did then this could be the problem.

What a c**p website for information ::)
I had a good look and there is no specifications on any of there products?.
The only information I can give you with the lack of specs are as follows.

If your original relay had a 15amp fuse then it should be capable of charging upto a 150Ah battery, yours is 115Ah so within the limits of the relay.

The only advice I can give you is the next time you run your van, check to see if any of the cables are getting hot (some should get warm) but not so hot it feels like the outer sleeve is soft, if the later is the case, then you still have a problem, I would suggest you try another battery and then check your cables again.

If you continue to get problems after trying another battery, then get your alternator checked by a pro.

If next time your fuse blows, don't just replace it, assume something else is wrong to cause the fuse to blow and run the check list above.

hello jeff
checked wires today, all seem ok , systems worked fine today , only thing i did notices is relay and wires are in a water proof box which is rather small and was warm , could it be that no air circulation is getting around relay causing it to heat up

Anything that produces heat should  be ventilated or have some sort of air circulation around it.
I'm not suggesting you do this, but if it was mine I would keep it away from water and damp, and drill a few holes in the back of the box, just to allow air to circulate and heat to escape.

The current drawn through the Pcb tracks can be high, over a period of time these tracks can lift off the board and eventually fail.

If you still have the old one take it apart and see if the tracks (silver lines) have burnt out, or if you can see any of the components have burn marks on them.
if you don't want to do this you can send it to me and I'll tell you what failed on it.
