I HATE WASTE !!!
« on: March 08, 2007, 08:42:55 pm »
Hi all
I need some Help
my ro is working and ive just been out and taken a reading
its producing 2ppm@1.5ltrs a min
the waste is 104 pmm @2.5ltrs a min
and the tap in is 79pmm
so my problem is @104 waste
i want to save this and put it back through the ro

so if i get a IBC and save it can i run a pump from my saved waste tank
back through my ro
any suggestions as to the size of pump and flow rate this should be set at?
i understand that i will have to change my filters more often
but i dont want to damage my ro membrane
any thoughts

Cheers Andy ???

Don't know what type of RO you have, you must have some instructions somewhere as to the max psi or barg water mains pressure that is acceptable...Get a pump that boosts/performs to that pressure.

If your waste is 104ppm then I would send it through again.  My mains goes in at 350ppm tds. You may need to inquire about extra pre filters to protect your membrane from chlorinates or some other thing lurking, but sounds good to me.

Thanks PJ
I bought my ro from Arthur @ sure clean systems
I just feel that the amount of waste is a little high and that if i could send it back through it would make more sence
any ideas as to a good pump to use
 ???

I don't know mate.  But you will be drawing water from a static IBC 1000l tank so no pressure from that other than the weight of the water when it's full, so no pressure, then you need to send it through your filters at a good pressure.  You need to ask the right questions.

PJ
does your booster pump draw water in at all or do you think it would not do the job
i saw your other post and you recomended it

if i was to raise the tank i could get a small amount of feed  from gravity
do you think this would be enough?

I don't think so Andy
You need some pressure into the booster to start with.
You may need some other pump that will be more powerful in drawing the water from your static first.  Talk to some suppliers on the phone, but be warned there are a lot of people in this field that really are like 'PC World Salesmen', they haven't got a clue!

But that's if you are using a 4040 RO too.

I'd say it sounds like a 40/40 ro system.  You should be able to plumb the waste with a control valve so that some goes straight back into the inlet and some to waste, this will negate the need to store the waste and reuse it.  If you add a booster pump to the equation it will boost production and it will be purer as well.
I have this same set up that I got from pure window water It will produce about 1000L in 5 and a half hour output will be at 2ppm with about 800L going to waste.

Now there's an interesting option to juggle with!  Nice one Sherwood. (Robin Hood?)

I like testing these things out

Hi Andy

I assume you're running a 4040 ro, if you want to recycle your waste water then you need a centrifuge pump to draw the water efficiently from the IBC tank.  To be honest with you I wouldn't bother because waste water is all the stuff that your ro has removed and each time you recycle it the concentration will go up so in the long run will tire the membrane out quicker.  Besides, water isn't that expensive.
