best upvc window frame cleaner
« on: March 06, 2007, 07:21:43 pm »
Hi
I have been aseked to degunge an interior of a conservatory, not been cleaned since it was put up about 12 years ago, the white frames are looking a bit grey and mucky, anyone have the ideal product to do the job, i was thinking of a cream cleaner like cif, as ive heard hat might work, but i was looking for some other suggestions.

Also, a wooden kitchen extraction fan door is sticky with grease, is there anything we could use that wont ruin the wood / finish?
thanks
Lisa

Don't use cif as its too abrasive and will dull the finish. Just use a general alkaline cleaner and wipe off. Any difficult areas can be cleaned gently with T cut then polished. Wooden doors another problem as the grease build up is difficult to remove. I'll leave that for someone else to advise.

hi,

i have used thompsons upvc cleaner to remove marks and it worked really well (bit like t-cut cos cloth went white), but not used on large area so dont know how easy to use on large areas, but worth a look.

I totally agree with John about the cream cleaners. We use a specialist cream cleaner that is filtered more finely than the likes of Cif, thus removing the abrasive elements.

We get it from a builders merchants that specialises in plastic materials.

With regards to the door use a cleaner/de-greaser and then go over immediately with a dry cloth.

As its the interior you are cleaning it is only going to be general dirt. You can get this off with any liquid cleaner without resorting to solvents or abrasives. Have done loads of fire damaged ones and thats all they ever needed.

Lisa,

There is a product called "upvc solvent cleaner" , from a company called Everbuild, its what conservatory fitters and refurbishers use to remove stuborn marks/greying etc, and is guaranteed to be better & quicker than cream cleaners (apply it with a white coloured cloth), and then finish with a microfibre cloth with some silcone polish to give it a gloss shine! ;)

You have to be carefull with these solvent cleaners. Not a problem if you get it onto glass when doing window frames but you have to avoid the polycarbonate roofing sheets as it can ghost. As I've said its an internal clean, its only dirt just wash it.
