Travel lodge, HSE computer Test
« on: March 05, 2007, 05:19:26 pm »
Hi Guy's
I did my travel lodge today, and the manager told me that I would have to do a HSE Test on there computer  ??? he said all there staff had to complete it, and this included the window cleaner.

Never ever heard of this before, has anyone, who does travel  lodges, had to do one????
If so can any one tell me what is included in this test or were can I find what its all about.

Also if I have to spend half or one hour doing this, should I charge them for my time? or just bite the bullet,  it will be worth £180 pm when the new lodge is opened in May 07.

Thanks for any advice Guy's

On there advertising boards it says Travel lodge.
The last manager has just had the boot ::) and I think this new one is a bit keen, it may not affect all of them, unless they have found out about the WAHR and are starting to enforce it, I really don't know.

Have you been paid yet by Travelodge? My recent experience with them is that they are quite happy to leave window cleaning invoices unpaid (so far in excess of eight months).  My advice - make sure you get paid before you do the job again.

Alex, I get cash at the end and I had cash today.

I was speaking to the manager when I first started and she told me they only have the budget for a once a month clean.

so it sounds to me its down to the Individual  managers to pay you.
They asked me, when the new Hotel (lodge) opens in May, if I could do the first clean in and out and then every 2 weeks for the lodge, between 12pm & 2;00pm do you have to do the same. this is there change over times, and its the 2 hour gap for cleaning. and I will be getting cash at the end, if they change there policy with me in the mean time I will let you know.

there is one near me that is hanging. how do you get them?
I get on well with the manager and she is as frustrated as me that they won't let the job go. Apparently some firm is surposed to come accross country to do it monthly. They haven't been seen yet, and the job was due to start last nov. I want an honest job, I bet they don't forget the bill.
if it is dirty it is fair game

Sorry Jon   ::) ;D ;D
My son-in-law works in there part time and he gets on well with the assistant manager, He Just asked about a window cleaner for me, and he just said send him along.
I went along on the day they asked (sunday ::)) and I came out with the Job.

My suggestion is just ask to see the manager or assistant (they also have the yes or no power) , But if Alex has had problems with there invoices, I would ask how they are going to pay (if you get the Job) and if they say cash then smile, there good earners, if invoice then think twice, or do the Job no more than twice before payment.

health and safety test for construction sites.

http://www.citb-constructionskills.co.uk/

we bought a disc of internet and can book online or phone to book.

they call it the yellow card and you must have this card for every staff member that is to work on site.

Hi Belinda
I don't think its because there building, I don't even go on the building site area now, they have it all fenced off because its in the public car park area, when they did have one area fenced off and I needed to get to the side of the building, i checked with the site agent, and he said it was fine for me to be on the site, I told him I would wear my hi vis coat and could I borrow a helmet and he said there was no need as there was no work  being carried out in the area I was working. ::)(I was still on site though) Now the area is open  again and I have free access.
My son-in-law told me tonight that he had to do one, but I can't make out why they want the window cleaner to do one, maybe because I'm working inside?? I don't know.

Know what you mean! Sounds a bit like the NVQ crap they have in my (normal) job- a huge folder on how to use a spanner.

Hi, my wife says it will be a general health and safety test, they have health and safety inductions at her place whenever a new contractor is working on site. It is a one off thing normally.

Jeff- I worked in Health and safety before I sarted up my own business.
It will be basic stuff
Do you know what a risk aassessment is
Do you know their health and safety policy (fire exits etc) They will get you to sign
Method statements on how you plan to do the job
Where the fire alarms are situated.
What the alarm sounds like.

Don,t worry they will take you through most of it to give you more knowledge while working on their site.
Hope the above helps a little
