evening all ,on monday i cleaned a 80/20 wool carpet and left very pleased with the job and the lady was pleased ,but got a call yesterday saying there are streaks on her carpet.
i went back to have a look and the carpet was nice and clean and i couldnt understand the problem ,she had just hoovered and the wheels on the hoover had sunk right into the carpet and left tramlines and as she vacumedshe didnt like the lines left between strokes ,it a green carpet and i explained it was just rhe shading from the two sides of the pile the pile one way was dark green and the other almost a greeny silver i  must admit it doent look right and the lady wants to get a new carpet i have explained to her by rubbing my hand over the carpet one way then the other but she is convinced the carpet is ruined,i have used the correct method and temp but this has done my head in the carpet is 4 years old and has never been cleaned before help?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Ady from what yoursaying the carpet sound like a twist pile and they are very common to shade once they have been cleaned. What this lady is now looking at is a clean carpet they all shade when cleaned properly.

Try and see if she has an original bit of carpet tucked away somewhere to take a comparison from.

Perhaps you should teach the lady to vacuum, correctly, against the grain, in which case, the problem, should resolve itself.

After fresh water rinse give it a really good brush in same direction and then leave a turbo all day, tell her NOT to walk on it for 6 hours or so.

The next question will be about shading and pooling - pile distortion.

Tell her to do one!

She has brought a piece of fabric and placed it on her floor and then spent four years walking over it

In that time she has not had it cleaned or attempted any maintenance

Now 4 years on she has paid you a small sum depending on size of carpet i would have thought less than £200?

And the carpet has no marks and still looks as clean as when she brought it

some people are never happy ::)

I had one myself exactly the same a few months back and after trying to reason with her several times i ended up basically telling her what i have just wrote above

Where are you located ?

See how you get on today if still no luck, then you will need to get an independant report done. DO NOT ACCEPT ANY LIABILITY.

As far as I can tell by your post you have done nothing untoward she just needs educating, in a friendly and professional manner.

ady your the expert in your field of carpet cleaning, i've always refered to manuels in showing the customer the differences in carpet fibres & their construction & how they nap & can shad, if you have been on any carpet cleaning courses you are 9x out of 10 supplied with a manuel, i have found these extremely helpful in pre-qualifying of a job & i've found that the customer rarely questions the printed word. hope this is helpful, the customers complaint is refered to in most of the manuels that i have.
