Cheap RO
« on: February 18, 2007, 11:40:09 am »
I believe this site http://www.ro-man.com/ is cheaper for RO systems than others Ive seen that are specialist for window cleaners, I may be wrong, but if not, then at least it'll save someone some pennies.

Hi matt, the ro-man systems are ok as a starter.  A few things to bear in mind are:

The stated output is in USgal per day, 1 USgal = 3.78ltrs

Output is normally less than half its rated output - that is a 300GPD system will most likely give you 150USgal per day = 567ltrs per 24hrs. This is because they are tested at 100psi, water temp of approx 20celsius.  Not normal conditions.

Finally over time the membranes will slow down reducing daily production.

Other than that they are ok and cheap to run.

I have a 4 stage 200gpd from them with a booster box tds in = 500+ tds out = 4 before DI, it produces 450l in around 6 hrs, I also use a 700ml Di unit

Thats more than enough for me at the moment

I have a 300Gpd Ro-Man with the old pump box they used to sell, I can fill my 440L storage tank from empty in 6-7 hrs. Tds in is 150-190, out is 001-000, and that's before resin.

The other week my brother's resin was spent and I was able to fill his 650L van mount with 000tds water twice as well as supplying my own 350L trailer mount with 2-3 fills, and even then the Ro was only working for 12hrs at a time over 3 days.

I would heartily recommend the Ro-Man products if you buy a pumped version. You wont need much resin as they are so efficient, and as I just explained above, you ARE able to supply over 1000L per day at 001-000 tds.

I'm really curious to find out why they stopped selling this as I find it an absolutely fab piece of kit

good point lads - the booster pump is essential, I don't know why they stopped selling the old booster box but they do sell booster pumps - it might pay to find out how the old box was set up, what pump was in it etc and build your own.

100 psi sureflow without the pressure switch (thats whats in mine anyway) plus a few other bits n bobs
cause it does not just boost the pressure though it also incoperates a cut off valve for when the tank is full

The old Ro-Man booster pump boxes were a great product when they worked!!

As a reseller of Ro-Man products we had more problems with these than any other product we sold. If you got a good one they were great, at one point more than 50% were faulty on delivery or within 1 hour of first use. This is why he stopped selling them, I think he had them made for him and the supplier to him was not too hot on quality control!

He now has (we supply) a very good pressure regulated Booster pump, but it does not have a cut off sensor so you need to pair it with a float valve with electric cut off switch, which he (and we) also sell.

Just as an aside regarding this thread, Im not WFP, but posted the link as I use RO Man for my fish-tank water, I keep marines and they need RO/DI water, but on looking at a number of window cleaning supplies sites the prices seemed cheaper with RO Man.

Hope its helped someone anyway.
