Dan,

Not all TM's are  equal, not all portables are equal, not all operators are equal.

The extraction machine is a tool - no more than that.

I found very little difference in set-up time between the two - a TM still has to be filled and emptied at some time and if you factor in the difference in maintenance time a portable comes a little in front.

When it comes to cleaning time, that can be a different matter.

John.

Sorry i have to disagree, if a Truckmount and her operator (yes she is a she) are set up correctly then their is hardley any set up time, its just about syncranising everything that you do to get the best out of it

Another way to look at things is what is great for one CC can be little use to another, I run a portable machine and will continue to do so simply because so many properties i clean have no access and i find i have to park far from where i want to be :P.The commercial jobs i perform during the night, some in built up areas where security and noise may be an issue so for me a portable machine is better than a TM.

what make me wonder is why all the truckmount owners arn't selling their machines and going back to portables.

because like its been said, its the operator who makes the difference ::)

lets get real.

Mike,#

i expect that the real reason that us tm operators are not selling them and going to portables is them women indoors, imagine what they would say if you told her that the remortgage on the house was a waste of time when a simple overdraft would do to buy a porty,... nah only joking its like going from a lada to a porsche u just wouldnt want to go back ;D ;D ;D

I imagine you TM owners must have a portable machine as there must be a fair number of jobs which have no access or pose security problems to either your equipment or the property???

In 6 months of being a t/m'er I've not had a job I couldn't reach. (some were a bit awkward). Maybe I've been lucky, I'm sure I'll come across a job at some stage I cant reach, if I do Ill probably pass it on to some poor porty user. I still have my Ninja, just cant be bothered to dig it out of the shed.

Do any of you truckmounters work in cities?  I reckon 30% of my jobs would be portable only unless I could run hoses across roads and 200-300ft down the footpath.

However that 1500sqft of flotex I cleaned on Thursday night would have been a breeze with a truckmount as I was parked 6ft from the door.  Pain in the backside filling and dumping.

Mark,

Not sure what your area is like but except for a couple of jobs I passed on its never been a problem for me and as you know I dont have 400 ft like some TM users

However in Central/West London its a nightmare, I dont know how they do it.

I dont have 400 ft. either, make do with 150 ft, although can borrow another 50 ft. if required.

A friend of mine regularly uses 1200 ft and 2X 500 ft from 1 TM, on cruise ships for a world famous line.
Believe me when I say, "They would not have anything else (not less) anything else"
