What a fool
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:52:49 pm »
sitting in my front room and I noticed a pair of ladders walking past my window, checked it out and it was 3 new wc in my road, doing the odd one or 2 houses,
then I noticed the one in the picture, leaning his ladder over a glass roof pourch, with 2 other guy's there you would have thought one of them would foot the ladder, but no he used a sand bag, I would have got a bit closer to take a closer photo, but they looked like they would have took offence and stabbed me. ;D

And with just a sand bag holding it, he even has it below the window sill and not resting on it. ???

I see what your saying but if you look closely the pourch covers half the next window, so you would have some stretching to do.

This is where ladder mitts on the upper stiles are a godsend - I would put them against the upper frame of the transom window.

It's a game of three halves!

I would put my ladder above the window onto the soffits. On a more serious note how on earth do people like that get any work? Using a ladder like that is just plain stupid and without a doubt, an accident waiting to happen.

that's crazy!
Obviously the safest way to clean it would be footing, but if i was on my own, i'd try the way Mike_G metioned.

We have dozens of guys setting up like that round our area under cutting the proffessional window cleaners prices. It is hard to compete price wise. Maybe we should be licensed like Scotland.

If they work like that though i wouldn't worry as it won't be long before they fall and either seriously injure themselves or even kill themselves.

I saw a bloke a while ago i've never seen before with his ladder at a really stupid angle. I stopped to say hello. I asked him if he wanted me too foot his ladder whilst he was cleaning the window and got told too "F - OFF".

My reply was " No problem mate - it won't be long before i'm cleaning that house if you work like that",. He asked me what did i mean so i just replied COMMONSENCE  which he obviously didn't have.

I did similar stuff to that years ago.  I wouldn't have relied on a sandbag though.  I would only have done it with the ladder well dug into the ground.  I got an Unger telescopic pole after a while and would then have cleaned that window from ground level.
