hard time of year to keep warm.
« on: January 11, 2007, 02:25:03 pm »
What tips has everyone got too keep warm this winter.  Just brought a flask to have my hot cups of tea, where and where-ever.
Any good tips out there about gloves that dont fall apart either ?

Thanks

Hi Clevs,
I've previously used sealskins gloves but although very good as others will testify they dont last too long before they split round fingers and thumbs. Its not been cold enough in Brighton for me to neeed any yet but heres an idea:

get these and put them inside some of those red rubber building/gardening gloves (I can even get them in my pound shop). warm and waterproof!

and as far as warm dry clothes go I have a sailing jacket (lidl) and some snowboard trousers with braces (tk max). I never worry about staying warm and dry now. Theres also some bargains to be had on ebay, search sailing waterproofs.

My tips are wear some gloves if its really cold maybe a wooly hat.
And work fast.

But once you crack on you won't notice the cold.
Watch the cups of tea in cold weather as you will be wanting the loo all the time.

on a really cold day, I wear 2 fleeces under a jacket, long johns, gloves, and most importantly, a warm hat that covers the ears. But we've not had any days like that this so far year, not round here, global warming I guess!

Work faster, build up  a sweat and most importantly don't stop!

Best buy for me this year has been my hat,

Here's John's hat:

Please tell me you're joking, John!

If I wore that, I'd look like one of Joseph Stalin's Siberian Tigers. ;D

Its only the wind and rain this winter thats been the problem

Ive spent 100 quid on body warmer 100 quid on boots 40 quid on lined trousers and i wear my wooly hat and 26 quid on omni gloves so i dont get cold

All this talk about heaters in vans converting vans to have heaters in so and so forth weve only had a bit of frost last year my jets was freezing up and my brush was freezing up

this is a mild winter

Gloves - I've used ungers and sealskins - both good but I prefer sealskins personally. They both fall apart with pole work.

To make them last longer:-

Get duct tape and wrap it round the "wear" points.

When you wash them at the end of the week remove the duct tape and replace with new when dried.
It's a game of three halves!
