Just Started in Kent
« on: January 08, 2007, 05:02:43 pm »
Hi everyone, I have just started window cleaning and are now looking for more work in the kent area. I have been door knocking and have not much luck. There are quite a few window cleaners working in the Dartford / Crayford area and i dont want to tread on anybodies toes. Is it worth me buying a round or keep going door to door. I have insurance up to 1m. Is there any good trickes to to geting new custom? Or should i be going for Shop fronts.

Any ideas or views welcome.

James

I think you will be wasting your time going after shop fronts in dartford there's a load of window cleaners who do them.
You may get the odd one but the pay is crap on shops so would not be worthwhile.

Try waterstone park down at greenhithe canvass in an evening you should get a load of work down there all new properties.

A rule of thumb (and that's all it is) is £1 per window hole (frame rather than pane) with a £10 minimum charge.  Add more for bad access (or better still don't do those), leaded/georgian type windows, or if it's a plush area and they ought to be able to afford it.  Try and get a higher price for your first cleans as they usually take longer.  Apart from that, just try to quote as high as poss.

There is no leaded windows there.
Charge as shiner has said £1 a window.

Any awkward windows put you price up a bit.
Most properties round there will be between £10 - £16 with a few £20's there but these need a WFP

Also after the mcdonalds roundabout go up the hill to the traffic lights opposite the garage and canvass the new type houses on the left as i know  they need a window cleaner or did do.

Actually i would canvass the whole of greenhithe as there is a lot of houses there all close together

Just got home, looks like someone beat me to it, all the house at waterstone park have a window cleaner.

I went to another area and got 8 new clients, some of these told me that they had a window cleaner but he hadnt been around since the start of the summer. I didnt try to under price him or take his business but they asked if i would do there windows.

Have i been unfair? i told the client that i didnt want to poach any business from another w/c.

HI JAMES

IF THE LAST WINDOW CLEANER HASEN'T BEEN ROUND SINCE THE SUMMER IT WOULD BE FAIR TO SAY THAT WORK IS FAIR GAME

IF YOU NEED IT TAKE IT
IT HIS LOSS
ANYTHING OVER TWO MONTHS(8 WEEKS ) AND MY CUSTOMERS ARE ON THE PHONE ASKING WHERE WE ARE

SEE IF YOU CAN  GET THE OLD W/C NUMBER IF YOU REALY  UNSURE
BUT AFTER 4 MONTHS HE AIN'T GOING BACK

Hi james

Not sure if you are interested but i have taken over another round and there is some work in eyensford i dont want.
Its only £105 worth.
There was another window cleaner uncut the prices to get this work as he new that the window cleaner that had it was moving to spain but they never turned up to do it.

So i still have the work so to speak but don't want it.
If your interested its your for free but you will need to go and see them just to make sure the one who undercut never turned up but as far as i know he has not.

If you are interested give me your email and i will email you the list.

Hi, got my first day out the way. Today i only got half a day in.

Quick question. I taken over a round which isnt local, ive got to be over there for two days this week. The people might not be in when i get there to clean the windows, should i leave the window and wait to they are in or clean them and write a small letter to each one explaining the situation?
If they are in i can explain it to them there and then but if its if there out im worried about.

Write a letter explaining the situation and put through there letter box the day before saying when you will be there.
On the day if they are not in clean the windows and leave a SAE so they can send you payment.
