I have a woven carpet i had a slight problem with a few weeks back.

It was for a customer in Brentwood, after cleaning the carpet came slightly away from the wall in a couple of places, and lifted of the gripper in certain areas, it also rippled a bit in the middle.

Anyway i secured all the edges back myself with a knee kicker, and told the customer that the ripples should settle and that worst ways it may take a week or two, anyway had a phone call today to say theres still like a ripple/air pocket in the carpet

Anyway i need to get a decent fitter round to take a look for me, so if anyone has any ideas i would be gratefull.

sounds like you have major problems mate     this is possibly caused by the backing breaking down ie the latex has failed. between hessian backing and fibres theres a thin layer of hessian which is stuck onto the the main hessian backing, if this fails then youve had it. carpet needs to be replaced

good luck with the job. but you'll find im right regarding the backing. there are a lot of so called carpet experts on here that seem to know all, good luck mate

If you restretch your only restretching the the backing and not stretching the top hessian. you can stretch all you want but you wont fix the problem. the latex has failed, best wishes to you

Fresh floors, on a tufted carpet you would maybey be right.

But this is a woven carpet, so no hessian and no latex. Just wool, jute, and cotton to contend with.

The O/P said it was woven so there is no latex to fail..

However, on a carpet with a primary+secondary backing, would it not be possible to lift the carpet, cut the secondary backing and squirt in some new adhesive?

Alltec, do a needle and syringe that you can do this with if you ever needed to.

But anyway, Back to my main question.

Does anyone know of a good carpet fitter that can take care of this for me??

Have you tried a Small Carpet Retailer, they often have fitters working with them on a Freelance Basis.

It would give you an excuse to go and introduce yourself.

What and let the local retailer know i damaged a carpet

Think il leave that one and just go in with a few brochures, thats gotta leave a better impression

On the only occasion I needed a fitter ( in 20 years ) a guy who worked for me, shrunk a B/W, not from ignorance, but, carelessness, failing to notice the dump valve was not closed, fully, resulting in reduced vaccum and overwetting.

I looked in Y/P and found someone claiming to be a highly skilled fitter. Fortunately, he was and charged me £70 for an excellent job.

I returned the cleaning charges to the client, do it cost me £130, but I retained my credibility and did'nt have to fork out £400 to replace the carpet.

Just look in the back of the local paper, there are loads of fitters offering fitting and re adaptions. I have always managed to get myself out of trouble but the fitters I have met either working for themselves or retailers are generally a great bunch and are more than willing to lend a hand (for a fee of course).

And of course a free lesson in plumbers talk 'you did what',  'well of course it will cost you', 'ooh dunno mate'.
