Just had a customer complaining about tram lines left on her carpet (80/20 wool) after I cleaned it last week.

She started being very off hand, demanding that I come sort it this week before xmas which I told her was an impossibility.

In 7 years of cleaning carpets, this is the first complaint I've had of this kind.

How do I rectify this problem ? Gonna try and see what shes complaining about in the next few days !

Terry it may be blocked jets on your wand which can cause it to line.
Come across this onc before about 2 years ago on a red wool carpet.The last guy cleaned it with a truckmount and white lines were marked right through the carpet when it dried.Sh got him back in and he said it was a bad carpet dye.
I could never find out exactly what caused it,I put it down to a blocked jet which thn put a needle pressure line along the carpet as it was fired i with what ever chemical had been used.

It was still there after I cleand it.

Alternatively....if it is a fairly old carpet, maybe draught marks appearing from floorboards that have built up over the years.
These are not always apparent before cleaning, in particular if the carpet was badly soiled thus hiding the lines initially.

If they are extensive draught lines, then you may have a problem removing and in fact convincing customer that this is what they  are.

Possibly lift carpet to see whether there are signs of draught marks showing on carpet back or on underlay, this would go part way to convincing the client.

If it is just blocked jets then just a thorough reclean should do it.

Well in my 10 years of carpet cleaning lines have been caused by;
1. Worn jets    or
2. Low water pump pressure       or
3. Low water pump pressure from a restriction. In my case a blocked filter on my Scrubba tool.
4. Again with a power Scrubba attached I had a blockage in the vac suction where the Scrubba makes contact with the carpet. i.e a build up of fluff and hairs etc which meant there were gaps in the suction.

Could be the pressure was too high and the jets were worm, therefore the stream of water coming from the jets pressed really hard into the pile a bit like flooding the centres and misting the edge.

Floorboards could be a possible cause. If you go over the carpet with a rotary machine and pad it might do the trick.

Had this before. In my case it was caused by too high a pressure setting and partially blocked jets.

You should go back asap, before she complains to everyone else. Lets face it in 7 years no complaint, so not bad. you will always get complaints of some nature it goes with the job, Its best to sort them quickly, as it gives peace of mind to both you and the 'moaning old pain in the arse' client.
