how hot does the water get ? have you broken any windows yet??
are you pleased with your system and have you changed anything like the filters or di Edd
the thermostate i got has saved the day, totally confident that i will not

I'm interested to learn how you've got your thermostat set up assuming that you've got a diesel heat exchanger fitted on your Ionics? system. I was going to buy an Ionics heater system but didn't want to buy another tank that's why I went my DIY route! I've learnt the hard way but have gained a lot from it and am always interested to know how other peoples hot water systems have been set up. Is your diesel heat exchanger set up to pre-heat the engine in your vehicle like an eberspacher night heater??? Also I presume you run your WFP pumps from a split charge relay and was wondering do you run your diesel heater from the same split charge relay or off an additional battery as they can drain the battery juice???

I can, if I choose, bypass my thermostat and get my water up to 95 degrees Celsius but I wouldn't dream of using it that hot on panes of glass. I stick to between 25-50 degrees depending on the property I'm working on and the outside temperature according to the time of year.

I use Gardiners supalite brushes for the majority of my work as I find it's enough to shift most stubborn marks along with the heat of my water as it runs down the glass like treacle and I have a job to keep up with my brush. Do you find it a hell of a lot faster cleaning windows the hotter the water??

I suffer with arthritus and find that using hot water I don't spend as long holding the pole to clean the windows and use less effort to clean windows on a new clean simply because of the hot water doing half the job for me-saves on the scrubbing so to speak.

firstly the heater heats the water in tank and to the poles only ! where the
hot water pipe comes to the hose reel i have cut the pipe and joined one end to the hot side of the thermostate and the other to the outport going back to the hose reel . then i put a t piece in the cold feed pumped side to the cold side of the thermostate so that the water out can be blended to my choice between 30/50 degrees my choice being 35/40 degrees tested with a digital thermometer ie conservatory roofs 50 deg first cleans 40 deg .i have tryed it hot tryed it cold but the best results and drying times without any dought is it hot
 
the best example is when doing upstairs windows when i have finished all the ups
and put the pole away they have stopped dripping enough to do the downs without waiting
the heater only uses 12 volts to power the pump for the fuel and to start the heater once going it has a vapourizer and wick type thing so when it is running the only thing using any power is the pump hope this answers any questions if you need any help plz ask Edd

what is your heater??mine is the Webasto thermo 90 s it will in fact heat the water to 140 deg this is why the thermostate was fitted it is from plumbing shop

Hi v8edd:

I acknowledge that you are using a 'Webasto' thermo 90. Am I assuming right that it is a diesel heat exchanger similar to an 'Eberspacher' heat exchanger.

The Eberspacher water heater is basically connected up to the vehicle radiator hoses  and burns diesel which is drawn from the vehicles fuel tank. On start up the Eberspacher heat exchanger runs at full capacity drawing it's high level of diesel to reach its maximum heat output. Once this is achieved it then runs at an 'idle' operating temperature drawing off the minimum fuel required. I assume yours works along this principle?

v8edd does your webasto store the produced hot water straight into an accumualator tank or expansion tank prior to going into your WFP tank/straight to your hose for window cleaning??

I don't use a diesel heater like you do. I get my heat from the vehicles radiator  hoses and it is stored in an indirect coil fitted inside my indirect van mounted boiler. The heat dissipitates through the coils and fins to the stored water inside my indirect boiler. My boiler has a thermostat which I can set at a desired temperature by means of a mixture valve which draws as much cold water as necessary to ensure the right temperature. It is along the same idea as what you have done.

Do you insulate your tank, that way when your hot water is going into your WFP tank it will remain hot for much longer than without insulation. If your stored hot water is insulated then you could cut down on the running time of your  Webasto heater which in turn would reduce the amount of diesel you need to draw.

I use to use microbore hoses but found that by compromising and using minibore hoses the water stays hotter than if it were in the microbore plus the fact that I can get a more sufficient flow of water to my WFpoles as necessary

im trying to run the heater on heating oil @22 ppl  i will let you know how i get on
i only run it full on for two hours in the morning maybe an hour in the afternoon as it uses 1 ltr hour of oil,the heated water goes straight into the tank
