Anything else I could do??
« on: November 23, 2006, 01:48:28 pm »
I have just finished a job getting alot of makeup stains out of this carpet in the ladies bedroom. I also had to do the hallway and stairs. It was a creme wool carpet, which hadnt been cleaned in a long time. As you can unfortunatly see in the picture, this was taken after cleaning. there had been alot of shoe polish that had been left on the pile by alot of traffic over the years.
I tried everything I normally do, but this was how it ended up. It was slightly damp, but it might dry out a bit lighter?
I used my TM, but the question is , what else could I have done, or as the staining had been there so long, was a fighting a loosing battle anyway?
I am disappointed that after all the time and work involved, this was the result  :(
Thanks
Ben

Ben........This is a drastic way to over come your problem. Of course you would have to check to see if it can be done. Anyway, take the carpet up and clean it up off site. You would then clean it as an area rug, i.e full immersion or at least a saturation clean. I use to clean stairs this way that had been flooded and wasnt covered by insurance and the customer still wanted the carpet. Believe me it does work. BUT again you have to make sure the carpet will stand this type of abuse. Best, Dave.

Thanks Dave, but for the money I got that would be OTT  :)

Lee: I vaccumed, and used Prochem Multi Pro and did agitate. All the usual stuff.
By the way I always find that the noses of creme carpets are extreamly difficult to get clean  :(

try re cleaning with hydramaster fast break with grease breaker, aggitate & acid rinse.

i have done hundreds of these type of carpets & all come much better than yours.

i never use multi pro nowerdays much better presprays on the market.

just follow the contour of the nose of the step ,drop down the rear of your stairs tool.

When I first got my truckmount I used multipro as the machine does alot of the work but try smething like Alltec citrus prespray (wool safe) & you will see a real result!

Thanks all for the info.
I use Prochem Citrus gel all the time, but no go on those stains. In fact it got rid of the makeup in the bedroom  :)
I will have to try some stronger pre spray. Would Prochem Traffic Lane cleaner possibly have done a better job? I have used it from time to time with good results, but it almost seemed too strong on occasion!

Are the stairs concrete, by any chance, as I've seen this situation on concrete stairs which had not been cleaned or sealed prior to carpet fitting.

Daves suggestion may be the only answer

good luck

I'd go for something more citus or solvent as this will break up the make up better.

Impact chemicalls (pog) used as a spotter not a pre-spray has allways got rid of shoe polish for me
one little spray, gentle aggitation and its gone, would have done the make up aswell

A simple dab of White Spirits and a gentle rub would have done the trick prior to extraction. We did this not so long ago with Makeup which had been trailed all down the stairs - came up like new!

Eco Spotter from Solutions should eat those stains!
