been going six months!
« on: November 22, 2006, 08:56:31 pm »
Well been going six months now, first five months were three days a week with a part time job on the mon and tue.
This worked well in the summer, guranteed money and spare time to pick up work and to try and master w/c.
As the weather got worse and i picked up more work, had to ditch the part time job and am now a full time w/c, yipee!!
I am nearly at the 100 jobs mark with the majority of these being on two weekly cycles as seems to be the norm round here, although the past few new customers have been asking for monthly cleans, which i dont mind, as most only need this and some local cleaners will not take on monthlys anymore??? ::)

Really enjoy the job and its perks, ie Its your own choice what you do and when etc.

My next step is CANVASSING as dont get a massive response from leaflets even in areas where there does not seem to be a cleaner, bit worried about it but sure once the first street is done i will be ok. ANY tips from anyone?

I also want to get some named up tops etc, and eventually a van instead of my old mazda!

So am i doing ok, six months in total and one month full time, nearly 100 jobs?

Hi

Well done, the only real answer to this is are you happy with this??
This week is the end of my first 5 months of window cleaning and i have 121 domestic customers and 4 commercial jobs, is this any good?? Who cares i thinks its quality to be where i am now seeings as i started from scratch.
Canvassing in the form of door knocking is the best way to gain extra customers fast.

Well done mate keep it up, 2 weekly cleans?? Wouldnt it be better money wise to do monthly, more customers this way. I dont think i could see some of my customers every 2 weeks although some i wouldnt mind seeing every week ;)

It really isn't about how many customers you got, you could have 200 @£3 a time or 50 @ £12 a time , exactly the same money coming in at the end of the day, but less running around with the higher priced ones. So only real guide would be month by month takings.

doing well jase keep it up and yes fortnightly is the norm for up north (blackpool myself) i do find that you can earn more doing monthly but obviously you need twice as many customers.
Do you follow up your leaflets by door knocking a couple of days later?

Hi

Been going for three month's part time now and I have 62 customers, 61 are on monthly cleans and I have 1 customer who has her cleans done 2 weekly.

Best thing I ever did moving out into the fresh air and seeing life...might be to warm sometimes or even to cold but it's still the best job I have ever had.

I have my own van and wfp system, have nearly all my customers on the wfp now life is getting easier and my quality of life with my wife and children has improved ten fold...and I am my own boss and the wages are great ! ;D

Door knocking...I found it hard at first but breathe in and give a big smile and you will find it goes a very long way. ;D ;D ;D

All the best

Well done mate, you'll find that each day when you go out w/c you'll end up picking up customers if you only have a couple in a street. (Obviously not EveryTime) And also if you keep saving up each week you'll also have a van in no time too and the rest of the equipment you want.

P.S Are you working Trad or WFP method?  :)

Seems we're all about the same, i'm into my 5th month now and have 121 customers.

Going like the clappers now, i haven't canvassed for weeks and i'm picking up customers every time i go out now. Yesterday , i got 3 more  - 1x£5, 1x£20 1x£45

Massively underestimated the £45 house though, all leaded windows (which i dont mind even though i'm trad) and it took me nearly 3 hours as it hadn't been done for 2 years ! Next time should be much quicker though hopefully, my cloths were filthy half way round and this slowed me down as well. Just bought some more microfibres off ebay because of that, gonna keep more in the car.

Well done, and good luck to everyone starting up also. I for one am loving it at the moment, but it's not really that cold yet ! lol.

Aslong as you get your prices right is doesn't matter how many customers you have.

I'm starting to off-load some of the jobs i got when i 1st started with better paying ones.

I'm starting to earn more money for less work now.

I still mess up on some prices now, but because i'm wfp it doesn't really matter to much as i'm still on a good hourly rate.

Craig is right for once , dont underprice any more if thats what you have been doing to get the work , i went in too cheap by far , was doing jobs for £6 i now dont take any on for minimum of £8 .
Believe me you dont want to have too many cheap jobs , you will hit the point when you dont have any more time and this means your earnings will never get much higher , i am still paying the price for cheap quotes .

Craig,
when you say "off-load"  how exactly are you going about it?
Do you just tell them you aint doing them anymore or does upping the prices do it?

If i can't get any joy with a price increase then i've been letting another w/c know and letting them have the job
