Is there much difference?
« on: November 18, 2006, 04:49:00 pm »
I was just wondering if any of you had tried leaflets in the past which offer a discount, then used the same design but without offering a discount to see if there is a better return or not. I get an ok return on the leaflets i do and i don't offer any discounts. But it would be interesting to know if people have tried this with there own design as they could be eatin into there own profits by discounting this and that.

I put a "10% discount if you respond within 7 days" type thing  on there so that people are more likely to phone there and then.

Thats quite a good idea mate but wasn't really the question i was asking. I was basically asking is there proof that a leaflet with discounts gets more interest then one without???

In my opinion yes, people like to thing the are getting something they wouldnt normaly get and as calmore says if you couple it with a deadline you get even better results.

I find if you put an address on it the customer feel that they already know you, but you do have to stay reasonably local.

I'm not so sure at the mo surely if you offer this and that everytime you give out leaflets then they are going to expect it cheaper everytime and you could end up just attracting price sensitive customers which no one wants. I think taken the no-bull approach might work ie no special half price offers, no gimics- just a good job at a fair honest price. But what i do think though is you should look after and reward you existing customers if they refer a friend to your business then give them say 10% off their next clean.

Yes, it gets a higher response. Whether it gets more notice is open to question.

Without the discount people put the leaflet to one side, intending to call in a week or two. Invariably, they forget.

With the discount they tend to phone up the same day.

I'm monitoring things closely at the moment and so far I haven't had anyone respond to a leaflet older than about a week.

Due to my v. poor response to leaflets so far, i've been looking into this.

Powerful ways to increase response (allegedly) are to-

Put a 100% money back promise on your ads.

Make sure the title is what you offer and grabs attention (not your company name)

Have a time limited offer

explain in 'detail' why they should use you

a story is a good idea

have a call to action + make it easy to contact you.

Stilll testing these ideas, the money back one is scary though (due to tight arses, not my work)

100% money back gauntee is great, if you do every job as well as you can you will never have a problem.I have done it for nearly 2 years now and have never refunded any money. but telling the client what it means will get you loads more work because it tells them that you intend to do the job properly.

That sound reassuring. Maybe I'm not trusting enough of human nature, but I'm giving it a trial. Got to be better than 1 quote/500 leaflets.

I think it also has something to do with the fact that by the time the damp wafer thin bits of paper get through the modern narrow, double flap, bristles from hell letter box, it's half way back to pulp again.

Then it's finished off completely by the Jack Russell who thinks he's hard the other side of some PVC.
