bolster and mallet for mortar snots followed by wire brush attachement on drill followed by brick acid followed by turbo. did a long wall recently that had had render on it. never again it was a real pain and v. hard work and to be honest wasn't brilliant result, maybe there are better ways.

re your weed question. have you tried pre treating with roundup. this sometimes has good results as it kills the weeds at the root. been back this week to check out some earlier jobs and some are regrowing even though the treatment was applied and some are really clean so i know what you mean about finding a really potent long lasting weed killer

had a look at your web site jay it looks really good

i use diluted hydrochloric acid, leave it to soak, them use a mallet and it falls off. i have used this technique on building sites many a time. Works a treat.
But dont get any on you!
And be careful with the wind!!It could blow in any direction!!

Brick acid does work to a certain degree, but it is ACID, It will inevitably make the block surface a slighty different colour where you put it, so you have to be carefull and you still have to knock if off I use a brick hammer to get snots off.
Also you HAVE TO WET the surface BEFORE you put the acid on (sorry can't spell hydrochloric or is it hypochloric)
I'm always in the poo, it's just the depth that varies

Hi Jay,
You can apply acid with an all plastic sprayer. A pump up garden variety, but be sure the components are all plastic, or the acid will eat through it.

Good luck,

A good  builders merchant will  sell a mortar/ cement remover product.

If you think about it you shouldn't be able to remove cement as its supposed to hold the bricks together, geddit???

As usual the more you pay for it the better it is, dont use their own brand stuff use the good stuff.

And as above, read the label!!!!!!
