Hi again...

you guys have told me to clean first the frames then the glass....

so am i right in doing the frames all the way round the house upstairs.... then starting again with the glass once the frames have finished dripping?..

thats what im doing as im scared of doing the glass too quick in case dirt from the frames is still dripping etc...

and its taking me ages ... cant be right that can it?

If your on a 1st clean then yes this is what i do but when your on the following cleans the top of the window will not be dirty,so all you have to do is the sides of the window and the glass, the top of the window sholud only be cleaned every 3 -6 months.

you need to clean the frames every time or you could get problems with water marks every 3 months when you clean the frames.

we clean the frame then the glass and finally the sills on each windows

make sure on the first cleans that you give a good rinse on the glass to finish.

As the amount of time it would take to clean the top of the frame each clean is so minimal, we clean every time therefore not giving us problems for the future.
Gazza, each property will be different, due to how much build up there is on the frames. As you clean the top frame, the dirt etc should start to run down and when you rinse it, that in turn pushes the dirt farther down the glass.Then when you are cleaning the glass, again you will be chasing the dirt downwards. Again rinsing should bring all dirt off the frames and glass. First cleans, take your time, when you have finished WFP, before you pack up, go round and check your work. You will be able to see if you have cleaned  off everything. If not re-do them. A bit of extra time spent on the first clean, really does speed up the follow up maintainence cleans.

i hardly ever clean the top frame of a window even on first cleans, i just clean to the top of the glass and as little of the top frame as possible. in my experience waiting for the drips to completely stop after doing so results in what you are experiencing and you end up spending more time on the job than what its actually worth.it does take a bit of skill and practice though to start with. i'm probably going to get some stick for stating this as it goes against what most wfp'ers do, but in 3 years i've had no complaints and i do chack them before i leave.

I clean the whole frame everytime. If not there's the chance of touching the top of the frame leaving dirty water marks running down the glass.

If you do it everytime you'll find it only takes a few seconds and you won't be getting them phone calls to go back and re-do them.

I've never been called to go back and re-do any job i have done and been wfp for around 14 months.

i clean the top of the frame on the first clean only, in my experiance the top of the frame is best left alone as much as possible,i clean the sides and bottom of the frame only.this has worked for me for 3 years and no complaints and no runs,spots etc

I always clean the frames on every clean. I spend a little more time on first cleans, i clean all the frame first, rinse the top well and rinse the sides, then clean the glass and rinse again from top of frame then rinse the glass well, not had any complaints!

if top of frame is best left alone why do it on the first clean surely after 3 years they are as dirty as when you first cleaned them

not at all. remember on 99% of first cleans we do the windows have always been cleaned the trad way and very often the frames have never been cleaned at all, so the top of the frame could be in a very bad way and if not cleaned on the first clean would cause no end of problems,but i find that once they have had a through first clean, then on maintainance cleans leaveing the top of the frame alone does a better job.yes i agree if it becomes obvious that that they require redoing then i will,but as long as you use a good technique and dont just splash water all over the place then cleaning just the sides and bottom of the frame will do a great job, or surley i would have had one complaint in 3 years.

also a point to remember, a great number of modern windows now have large vents fitted into the top of the frame, getting water in these is just asking for runs,spots

good point rugby, i have loads of windows with the top vents in them, and your right, its a nightmare if you touch them.

SIMPLE JUST TURN THE PRESSURE DOWN VERY LOW, THIS WAY YOU HAVE MORE CONTROL OF THE WATER FLOW AS THIS WILL HELP YOU AVOID GETTING WATER INTO THE VENTS

I've cleaned on top of these vents and never had a problem or should i say no one has ever complained.

i wouldnt get much work done if i kept running back to the van to adjust the water pressure all the time just to clean the top of the frame,my water presure is controled with vari-stream in the van.
