how to tell a customer you want to break up with them?
« on: November 14, 2006, 06:50:49 pm »
Hi all
I have a small problem.
we have been cleaning this customers property for 6 months or so now, but we really cant be doing with her anymore, always poking her nose in and generally getting on our nerves.

we have now had enough, and decided to pack in cleaning for her, basically we just dont want to do it any more.

how on earth do i work a letter to her saying this? as she left me a message saying "i want to know why you dont want to clean for me anymore, that is if you arent coming back"
i know we dont have to explain ourselves, and we went in to business o we could do the work etc that we wanted, so it goes against the grain to do a job we arent happy doing.
any suggestions?

Agreed.

don't lose sleep over it, life is too short . . .unless it's a contractual obligation as Samuel has already said.

In the early days, we "ejected" a similar sounding customer for exactly the same reasons . .  she was 'old school' and wanted more of a maid than a cleaner.

On that occasions we told her we wanted to concentrate on the commercial side and let her down gently.

thanks for your suggestions.

i drafted a letter earlier before just seing your responses and went with the line
"we have won a large late night cleaning contract, and are now cutting back on our domestic rounds, although we may resume them in the new year"

she wanted us at her house for 8am twice a week for 2 cleaners x 3hrs per day, and it really was getting too much and she was getting more and more demanding.

hate lying to her but shes been through so many cleaning companies, she normally gets rid of them.

and said thanks for using us and hope she finds suitable replacements soon.

Dear Mrs So and so,
It is with regret that Lisa 1234 cleaning services cannot continue with our previously agreed arrangement for a regular clean as our company has recently secured a major cleaning contract for a large locally based firm and as such all resources are now required to furnish our obligations. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause you and wish you all the best for the future.
Yours sincerely,
Lisa1234

Dear nosy old poke,

I wanted to write to you to explain why we would no longer be providing our services to your property, but if I did it may result in you being extremely offended. So lets just leave it at that.

                        not yours anymore
