Oven Cleaning
« on: June 02, 2004, 12:29:27 am »
Hi all

Been doing a bit of research on this particular topic, which appears to becoming a growth market.

Anyone have any experience of the same?

Cheers

Dan.

I would like to know which chemical the Franchise companies use.

Every chemical I have looked at requires oven to be heated for  an hour or longer to get off heavey burnt on stuff.

Franchisees do not take that long when they have 6 a day to clean.

So I am presuming they have a chemical that does not require heat

Hi Ian

From what I can gather they clean the oven with it on. Apparently it is easier to clean it hot, but they do have their own formulas.

However, the grilles which I imagine are the nasty bits, are placed in dipping tanks inside their vans which are heated, which results in them looking good as new!

If you could find out where they ger these tanks from, I think you would be halfway there.

Good luck

Hi Guys ,

I clean one kitchen in a club where I do everything else ,including drinking alcohol.

They(franchisees) almost certainly use a sodium hydroxide solution to clean off that black greasy stuff.
I have a bag of Na oH which I use with great care wearing goggles, gauntlet gloves etc.

This material is extremely corrosive.

If you fancy this I would strongly recommend that you do it as a stand alone business.

Cheers,

Doug

Ill just stick to cleaning carpets then.

Did have a company who would have sold me kit and training for about  £2000.

Hi Guys

I do quite a lot of oven and they have taken from 2 1/2 to 4 hours.

but...

Recently i got this down to just under an hour.

I did this by using Caustic Soda.

Thuis was partly out of desperation and because this ios what chefs use. (i know one)

PLEASE, use thick rubber gloves, mask and GOGGLES!

In the interests of H&S you can get a caustic gel (SO20)
paint this on with a paint brush and leave fort 20 mins while you change the filter, clean the side etc, etc...

I use scourer, wire brush, toothbrush.

PLEASE make sure you rinse thoroughly!!!

If you do use the caustic soda please be careful of splashes. Always follow instructions.

Hi,

Caustic Soda,Sodium Hydroxide,Na OH all the same thing and all highly corrosive.

Watch your eyes ,you only get two!

Cheers,

Doug

p.s I will definitely stick to carpet cleaning!

as a side note...

even the on-the-shelf oven cleaners are caustic.

you do need to be careful.

With regards to dipping tanks for Caustic I know one company I deal with use the bottle skips you see in pubs for this purpose. Any hotel/bar supplier should be able to point you in the right direction

Idid oven cleaning for 3 years i used a oven cleaner from kitchen ecomony i used to paste the stuff on and take the oven racks and bits home to clean and return the following day. Customers didnt seem to mind that. The ovens infact whole cooker looked brand new afterwards i also changed door seals and lamps at a extra cost i used to charge £49.50 for a standard cooker and £65 for a range type i did it for 3 years and had 123 regular customers. But decided to move and give that up as hard work i prefer carpet cleaning. On top of that the chemcal was ph 15 deadly on the skin i once slashed a tinyiest amount in my eye and ended up in hospital having my ete rinsed for 9 hours.  With reagrds to Ovenu franchise the chemical they use is non caustic and they keep it secret even the operators dont know whats in it. though thinking about it they must have a data sheet on the stuff
