I have "HEAVY LOAD" on the back of my van, does this stop idiots driving up my arse, No!

What else can I do? it really winds me up at times, I find middle aged women the worst for some reason they havent a clue how to drive safley. then followed by idiot boy racer types, in there rust heaps. Complete muppets!

I drive quite slow, withing or not much over speed limits but they can see im a van with HEAVY LOAD on, I carry probably around a tun of weight,   no way am I gonna be pushed along by some mug or stupid cow, how are they gonna get there any quicker? and as soon as one turns off, another only pulls out behind dont they, and you geuss it..... they only do the same, dont they!!

I was thinking of getting them yellow numberplate type stickers to go just above heavy load, saying "STAY WELL BACK". what do you think, will it stop the mindless, incompiteint and dangerous idiots?

Anyone else get these problems?

Hi~there,I get this a lot as well,whenever Im in a hurry theres allways someone in front of me with a van that say HEAVY LOAD on it
No seriously,it makes no difference what you put on the van,people drive in there own world and dont take any notice of any thing on a van,have you tried the yellow and black reflective tape that you get?Whenever I see that I allways drop back,dont know why....

Yea I have seen the tape mate, I was thinking of getting that aswell.

Another thing is when im in traffic going up hill, OMG SOME PEOPLE ARE EITHER REALLY THICK OR JUST TOTAL MUPPETS.

say if I got

                                Cant you read!!!!

Then loads of that reflective tape on my back bumpers, would that stop them??

How about small stickers saying

"if you can read this your a Muppet"

"Driver mentally ill, stay well back YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED"

Or will that still not work?

I doubt if any of it would work,my reason is thus......

When I see any kind of notice on a car,van or lorry for reason or lack of brains I have to get close to read it,therefore defeating the reason its on there for....
I just remembered/worked it out why I back off from the tape......Emergency Vehicles..Police etc.have them on there bumpers,as do ejector seats.(Nothing to do with cars I know,but I remember certain things for no apparent reason)
I would try the tape....

Heavy load, I blew my turbo a couple of weeks ago and the smoke is bellowing out of my van at the mo is terrible I can only just see through the smoke in my rear view mirror and the muppets are still right up my ar*e even when I am on dual carriageways!

I have this problem everyday,  ::)as you can see from my pic ive only got a small rascal van and carry 8-25ltrs in it so it doesnt move that fast.  Ive constantly got someone up my a**e
Its not so bad on the way back as i have used all the water it was especially bad today as my clutch went when the van was full

On Ebay they do them light things you can set your own message up in lights with the flick of a switch.

its a real wind up, but what can you do either laugh or go mad. When i try and climb some hills I struggle becasue I dont like ragging my gears out, I hate stopping and starting in traffic up hill, a nightmare when you have some divy bird half a foot away from the back of the van, every time you creep foward to stretch the gap they do the same I DONNO!!!

If you have someone up your backside keep driving but just keep tapping your brake's, enough for the brake lights to come on, then they think, there driving behind a crap driver and drop back, works every time, (don't apply the brakes though)
if you back up to some were, you can see your lights say in a window, this will give you an idea of how much to touch your brakes to operate the lights.
Come back and tell me truthfully it doesn't work. and I'll leave the forum.

Get some 2 foot long spikes welded to the rear doors mid way up and sharpen the tips so they glint in the sunlight, that might make them back off, especially with a bit of random hard breaking thrown in.

It does work, I do it all the time although I'm not realy bothered about being hit by a car from behind as it would leave a nasty dent in their bumper as I've got a crash bumper step fitted and it can do some serious damage to the vehicle following to close behind. If they still persist in following right up my bumper then the odd hasty emergency brake works wonders. It scares the living poop out of them and then they stay well back!!!!!

I just keep getting slower if they dont get the hint I stop get out with the tow rope in hand and ask if they want a tow or if I should open the back doors so they can just dive in

I hate being tailgated too.  I tend to just drive slower and hope they overtake.  This isn't to antagonise the person behind.  I figure that there is less possibility of me needing to brake sharply if I'm driving slower.  Also, if I do get rear ended, the collision will be less severe at lower speed.
Something that also concerns me is someone changing lane in front of me.  Some of them seem to assume that my van (2.9 tonnes when fully loaded) can stop as easily as their Micra/Mini/ etc.  I bet they would scream blue murder at being rear ended when they've changed lanes with insufficient warning.

I just keep dabbing the brakes.

If it's on the fast lane of the motorway I slow them down to about 55mph, then move out the way.
