I nicked this from another forum. It seems to be what most in that world of weather are saying.
Synoptic Analysis & Discussion - Continuing Very Unsettled - Potential for Strong Winds?Analysis
Complex low pressure covers the British Isles with low over Bristol Channel at 19Z and bands of showers in its circulation. More continental airmass from France has been finally pushed east and weather is now coming straight in off the Atlantic. Atlantic Jet is anchored between 45 and 50N and drives straight into towards the UK. High pressure blocking is located over Greenland and is being maintained by cold advection across the Norwegian Sea and warm advection over Eastern Canada.
Fronts from the south are running up against the cold block and fronts are becoming slow moving across Scotland with fairly persistent rain at times leading to a slow but steady rise in river levels here.
Little change over the next 5-7 days as high pressure persists across these northern latitudes and active Atlantic low pressure affects NW Europe. A Strong Jet emanating from Eastern North America looks set to progagate east across the Atlantic and bring the potential for at least one bout of cyclogenesis across the UK
