Olefin/Polyprop Cleaning
« on: October 14, 2006, 10:45:07 am »
Quoted for a Job for a chain of book stores the other day. They are not big and decided to quote high, very high as I wasn't that keen.

Some how they decided that my presentation was good and price was not an issue and gave me an order number for a trial.

The carpet in the store is Olefin. Currently I use the Prochem Duo for Olefin carpets together with my TM set at about 500psi and about 80deg.

At present I don't aggitate the Pre-spray, but still get good results. The snag with this trial store is that the centre management will not allow me to use my TM (They say its too disruptive for the centre).

This means that I have to resort to my Portables SEMCA K353. The snag with this is that they don't heat the water and only push out 60psi.

In order to impress, I will need to agitate the prespray, but I've never resorted to this before.

I was thinking of using a rotary floor tool with a shampoo brush, but is this going to be stiff enough.

What other methods could I use.

Regards
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

I can c yr problem. Why not invest in a speedstar from Cleansmart. knocks out 450psi twin vac heavy lift, that'll knock em dead. £1,600 I think or something like that.

Invest now. Speculate to accumulate!

Scott, Jeremy lives in Cape town SA, will Matt send you that far ;)

I'd go back to the store managers and say the centre won't let you use a T/M but without using a T/M you can't achieve a superior result.

they might have more weight in getting you permission to use your T/M

if not bonnet it

i agree with mike about saying the best results are from a t/m its then their chioce i think they will lean towards being more accomodating especially as if you say you will do the job in  a third of the time just to make a point to them

The SEMCA K353 has excellent lift with 2 x 3 stage vacs but little pressure, so the question is how best to agitate.

Will a shampoo brush on a rotary machine do the trick or will I need to get a stiffer brush.

Why not invest in a agitation machine, although designed for dry compound we use the Sebo Dou, they are about £180 new and you can put stiffer red brushes on them should you need to also you then you have a VLM option should you need it in the future.  Or you could go for something with a bit more whoomph such as a Host, Agimac or numerous others available nowadays.

Hope this helps.

If you do go for the rotary option i hear that M Power excels with this type or cleaning although ive only used it with HWE personaly.

Did the job yesturday. To my horror there wasn't even any hot water. So not only did I not have my TM, but had a 60PSI porty with cold water.

We used the Prochem DUO, but ran out of the pre-spray almost before we started and so we switched to our normal pre-spray but mixed to double strength.

We didn't use any mechanical aggitation.

Absolute shock and disbelief - The carpets came up almost new. The job took 1 hour to clean 120 square meters with 3 portable machines and 4 staff.

Charged them a premium price

Will be very happy to do all the other stores now. What a relief

You have got a TM (although using semcas on this job) and atleast 3 staff, surely you have got confiedence and know how!

Rich.

COnfidence is not an issue. Confidence comes with experience. We did not have any experience of cleaning a polyprop carpet with a 60psi semca and cold water.

The reason for the post originally was to get your experiences. If you look back at the reply's, not many people gave any useable feedback, so I'm not sure what you are now telling me.  Does confidence clean carpets or does knowledge clean carpets. Or are these interlinked.
