We put cones out and signs, and tend to do work in town before it gets busy.
Or safely climb a ladder

The guy in this picture deserves to get run over!
ALL my guys have cones and hi-vis vests when working near traffic. We also do any high street or main road work early to avoid situations like this. If it is not convenient then one guy will operate the pole while the other stands at the leading cone and directs traffic away from the operative.
The police are fine as they instructed us that as long as we do not cause a traffic jam or nuisance we can carry on with our work.
Never had a problem or been hit by a vehicle yet

Good grief!
What a wally!!
Mind you, if he was using a ladder he would still be out in the road, so it would be equally as stupid.
In that situation, were he working off ladders he would also have to be coned off

If he was on a ladder he'd still need a pole!
He's working at least 45' up!
Poor bloke, there was probably no traffic when he started.

Perhaps Rog, but he would still be out in the road, I personally don't stand much further out than I would were I using a ladder, very little difference in fact.
He would still be out at least a foot into the road at that height, and what with punters wandering around...
But we all do daft things, I've done plenty
