Mattress Doctor

Hi Guys,
I have received an offer from The Mattress Doctor of £5 per single and £10 per double mattress that I refer to him for cleaning.
Apparently the process is High frequency wave vibration followed by vacuum.
Sterilsation with UVC to kill bacteris and viruses
Spraying with a ''chemical free formulation to control future contamination.( the chemical free bit made me smile
)
Has anyone come accross this process which is obviously a franchise.
Cheers
Doug

Yes Doug,
A year or two back we went to look at buying a franchise.
The high frequency vibration is caused by a specially tuned turbo brush (vacuum) with a built in UVC light for sterilization.

I spoke to uvc people some time ago and they reported that the system is effective,,,,,,,,,,but the exposure, when using the franchised system was probably inadequate, as very slow passes would be necessary, for the uvc to be effective.

We purchased to our cost some years back a Kirby , a sterilite (something like that) UVC sterilizer, sprays with the intention of looking at bed mattress and allergy cleaning. But it is very small market. If we have a job sometimes persuading people to clean their carpets regularly how much so the aforementioned. The equipment has paid for itself and it is useful but that not why I am in business - that's to make money and earn a living.
I am not sure you can do that in such a specialized area of cleaning.

UVC light will only kill bacteria which is actually exposed to the light. We sell some of this equipment so I have researched it to a degree.
In view of this I would be doubtful if used on a mattress it would do anymore than kill surface bacteria which you could do with a spray anyway.
The deep seated bacteria feeding off sweat and skin flakes would be unaffected.

Doug,
If they only charge £15 worth having it done to watch process.
Mark
If you have covered cost of your Kirby equipment next time you offer serviceas an extra its all profit.

Well to be honest the wife has confiscated the kirby for home use.
Despite what some might think, it is an excellent hoover, albeit over priced.

Doug
There are a lot of franchises out there now with this sort of thing. It does work and sterilise the matress but obviously will not remove any soilage as only HWE will do that.
When I was with A******** I looked into this but there is not a great demand for mattress cleaning.
The biggest thing about this it the ongoing treatment as once the matress is sterilised it is then spoilt straight a way by contact on the next nights sleep.A product needs to ne injected/sprayed into the mattress that will combat all allergenes and bacteria over the subsequent months A******* does work well for this but there are other chemicals out there also.

I was looking into this franchise a while back. From memory (bad as it is) someone had told me that the mites will go further into the mattress as they try to escape the uv light, therefore defeating the purpose.

Hi Paul,
You keep saying their are other chemicals out there, are you referring to other enzymes or insecticides?
Cheers

Just seen a prog on the telly where they claim an average adult sweats out 1/2 pint of sweat per night, which obviously ends up in the bedding+mattress.
There's obviously a market out there but suspect it will be a good few years before it's big enough to bother with.
